About the role

Position Overview:

  • Under limited supervision responsible for providing hands-on implementation of the waste management and transportation (WM&T) programs for the DUF6 project. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

Functional:

  • Develops and implements WM&T programs
  • Analyzes and solves specialized problems with a narrow scope
  • Inspects and verifies that packages meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for marking, labeling, and placarding
  • Conducts modified cylinder inspections to ensure packaging meets DOT regulations
  • Directs the loading and shipment of hydrofluoric acid (HF)
  • Conducts truck and rail shipments of waste and product and prepares transportation paperwork
  • Coordinates with treatment, storage, and disposal facilities
  • Performs waste management functions (i.e., radioactive and hazardous waste management, waste characterization, tracking, generation and minimization oversight, waste storage area compliance and inspections)
  • Determines equipment, material, and package needs for WM&T work activities and prepares purchase requisitions
  • Provides assistance and training to waste generators
  • Monitors and tracks sample data
  • Prepares characterization plans, site wide status and annual reports
  • Serves as the package certifier in support of the waste certification program in compliance with DOE O 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management and the waste acceptance criteria for a Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) credential
