Role Overview
The client is seeking a highly skilled Microsoft 365 Messaging & Security Engineer to manage and
secure enterprise email environments. This role involves Exchange Online administration,
Microsoft Defender for Office (MDO) management, and active participation in incident response
and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) discussions. The candidate will act as a Level 2 escalation point,
collaborate with global teams, and confidently represent the organization in high-visibility
forums.
Key Responsibilities
1. Exchange Online Administration
Manage and maintain Exchange Online configurations, including mail flow, connectors,
transport rules, and mailbox policies.
Troubleshoot complex email delivery issues, spam filtering, and security configurations.
Implement and optimize Exchange Online features for performance, reliability, and compliance.
2. Microsoft Defender for Office (MDO)
Configure and manage anti-phishing, anti-spam, Safe Links, and Safe Attachments policies.
Monitor, investigate, and respond to email security alerts and incidents.
Analyze phishing attempts and malware threats, ensuring timely remediation.
3. Microsoft Defender Suite (Basic Exposure)
Support basic configuration and monitoring of Defender for Endpoint, Identity, and Cloud Apps.
Collaborate with security and SOC teams for escalations and advanced threat resolution.
4. Incident Response & Escalation
Act as Level 2 escalation support for messaging and email security issues.
Work closely with Level 1 teams and SOC for effective incident resolution.
Contribute to incident management and continuous service improvement initiatives.
5. RCA Participation & Stakeholder Management
Actively participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) calls with large audiences (50–60 participants).
Provide clear, concise, and technically accurate explanations during discussions.
Handle queries from senior stakeholders and global teams (UK/US) with confidence and
professionalism.
Support post-incident reviews and help drive preventive measures.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, incidents, and resolutions.
Generate reports on email security posture, incidents, and threat trends.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
Strong hands-on experience with Exchange Online administration and troubleshooting.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Defender for Office (MDO).
Working knowledge of Microsoft Defender suite (Endpoint, Identity, Cloud Apps).
Exposure to Microsoft Purview and security/compliance solutions is highly desirable.
Broad understanding of IT infrastructure, applications, and enterprise security practices.
Soft Skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong communication and presentation skills, especially in high-pressure environments.
Ability to engage and collaborate with cross-functional and international teams.
Experience
5–7 years of experience in Microsoft 365 messaging and security.
Proven experience handling Level 2 escalations in enterprise environments.
Experience participating in RCA discussions with senior management.
