Position Summary: A Welder Fabricator is responsible for, layout, welding and cutting, fabrication of structural and pipe as associated with hydraulic systems. The welder fabricator assists in all aspects of the HPU system build process and collaborates with the rest of the team.

Primary Duties: 

  •  Individual must be a Certified Structural Welder per AWS D1.1, Dual Shield.
  •  Must be Certified and understand the process of Welding High Pressure Pipe.
  •  Melt and apply solder along adjoining edges of workpieces to solder joints, using soldering irons, gas torches, or electric-ultrasonic equipment.
  •  Examine seams for defects and rework defective joints or broken parts.
  •  Melt and separate brazed or soldered joints to remove and straighten damaged or misaligned components, using hand torches, irons, or furnaces. 
  •  Melt and apply solder to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products, using soldering equipment. 
  •  Clean workpieces to remove dirt or excess acid, using chemical solutions, files, wire brushes, or grinders. 
  •  Guide torches and rods along joints of workpieces to heat them to brazing temperature, melt braze alloys, and bond workpieces together.
  •  Adjust electric current and timing cycles of resistance welding machines to heat metals to bonding temperature. 
  •  Clean equipment parts, such as tips of soldering irons, using chemical solutions, or cleaning compounds. 
  •  Align and clamp workpieces together, using rules, squares, or hand tools, or position items in fixtures, jigs, or vises. 
  •  Sweat together workpieces coated with solder.
  •  Smooth soldered areas with alternate strokes of paddles and torches, leaving soldered sections slightly higher than surrounding areas for later filing. 
  •  Select torch tips, flux, and brazing alloys from data charts or work orders. 
  •  Clean joints of workpieces with wire brushes or by dipping them into cleaning solutions. 
  •  Grind, cut, buff, or bend edges of workpieces to be joined to ensure snug fit, using power grinders and hand tools. 
  •  Cut carbon electrodes to specified sizes and shapes, using cutoff saws. 
  •  Develop, maintain, and share current and new product knowledge.
  •  Provide technical resources for others in the organization.
  •  Address and resolve all customer requests, complaints, and objections with a positive and creative approach.
  •  Coordinate efforts with all appropriate departments and personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that the highest level of customer service, ethics and teamwork are followed.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Experience working with and on welding, fabrication and hydraulic components and equipment.
  • Must understand measurement techniques and units including metric/SAE conversions and fractions.
  • Ability to read and understand hydraulic schematics.
  • Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to detect technical discrepancies and malfunctions.
  • Excellent oral communication and strong relationship building skills required.
  • Detail oriented with solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Understanding of the proper use of all repair tools, testing machinery and equipment.
  • Must supply basic hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Ability to lift to 70 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently. Frequent grasping, reaching, standing, and walking with occasional bending and kneeling. Work environment: primarily inside, workshop environment involving working at a bench or test stand in relatively proximity to other technicians with occasional work completed in the field.  Occasionally, the work will require working underneath or on large equipment either in the shop or directly outside the shop. Salary: 

$26-$33/hour DOE
