The Trades & Technical Skills Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, industry-aligned instruction in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems within an Indiana secondary or post-secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This position prepares students for immediate workforce entry and/or continued education in the skilled trades, while maintaining a safe, hands-on learning environment that meets all Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and applicable industry standards.
Qualifications: Valid teaching license/certificate. Prefer relevant teaching experience.
Compensation and Benefits: Salary is based on experience and certification at a range from $45,000.00 to $83,500.00 as reflected in the Master Teacher Contract. Benefit options include section 125 health, vision, and dental coverage, subject to plan terms (for employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week), voluntary benefits such as life insurance, long-term disability, and other ancillary insurance options (subject to applicable waiting periods, for employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week), participation in VEBA to receive up to 1% of salary deposited into individual VEBA account (must be vested 5 years), participation in TRF My Choice: Retirement Savings Plan or TRF Hybrid Plan, investment program (403b) with up to 3% 401a match, paid Time Off, 4 personal days and 9 sick days. This will be prorated based on the start date. Unused paid leave days roll over into sick accumulated days, and use of the Wellness Gym (workout facility for all employees and guests ages 18+) and Marathon Health Clinic.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Trades & Technical Skills Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, industry-aligned
instruction in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems within an Indiana secondary or
post-secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This position prepares students for
immediate workforce entry and/or continued education in the skilled trades, while maintaining a
safe, hands-on learning environment that meets all Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and
applicable industry standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Curriculum
• Design and deliver competency-based curriculum covering HVAC systems, plumbing codes
and practices, and electrical systems (residential and commercial) aligned with IDOE CTE
standards.
• Develop lesson plans, hands-on labs, and project-based learning experiences that reflect
current industry practices and Indiana building codes.
• Integrate safety training, OSHA 10/30 awareness, and code compliance (Indiana Plumbing
Code, NEC, Indiana State Building Code) throughout all coursework.
• Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials including NCCER, EPA 608, OSHA
certifications, and applicable apprenticeship readiness assessments.
• Use a variety of instructional strategies to differentiate learning and meet the needs of
diverse student populations.
Lab & Classroom Management
• Maintain a fully operational, safe, and well-organized trade lab equipped for HVAC,
plumbing, and electrical training.
• Enforce all safety protocols and ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment,
and materials.
• Conduct regular equipment inspections and coordinate with administration for repairs,
supplies, and capital equipment needs.

• Comply with all OSHA and school safety regulations; document and report any incidents
promptly.
Student & Program Development
• Establish and maintain partnerships with local contractors, trade unions, utility companies,
and employers for guest speakers, job shadows, and internship/apprenticeship placements.
• Assist students with workforce transition activities: job applications, industry contacts, and
apprenticeship program enrollment.
• Track and report student industry credential attainment, placement, and program outcome
data as required by IDOE and Perkins funding guidelines.
Professional Responsibilities
• Maintain required Indiana educator licensure and complete continuing education hours as
mandated by IDOE.
• Participate in department, school, and CTE program meetings, professional development,
and curriculum review processes.
• Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, counselors, and administrators
regarding student progress.
• Maintain accurate grade records, attendance, and program documentation in compliance
with school and state requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensure
• Valid Indiana Educator License or eligibility to obtain one; Career & Technical Education
(Vocational) license preferred. Workplace Specialist License attainment support offered by
the District
Experience
• Minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable, full-time journey-level or supervisory experience in two
or more of the following trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical.
• Prior teaching, training, mentoring, or apprenticeship instruction experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Indiana building codes, NEC, and applicable industry regulations.
Licenses & Certifications (Preferred)
• Indiana or National HVAC journeyman/master license; EPA 608 Certification.
• Indiana licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber.
• Indiana Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
• NCCER Core Curriculum certification or instructor credentials.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (Construction or General Industry).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• In-depth technical knowledge of HVAC systems (refrigeration cycles, air distribution,
controls), plumbing systems (supply, drain-waste-vent, fixtures), and electrical systems
(wiring, panels, NEC compliance).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex technical
concepts for diverse learners.
• Demonstrated ability to create a structured, respectful, and productive classroom/lab
environment.

• Proficiency with relevant instructional technology, learning management systems, and
standard productivity software.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, industry partners, and community
stakeholders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Regular work in a hands-on trade laboratory setting involving tools, equipment, and
materials associated with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, and perform tasks
requiring manual dexterity.
• Occasional exposure to fumes, loud noise, and temperatures associated with trade shop
environments; appropriate PPE required and provided.
• Possible evening or weekend hours for SkillsUSA events, competitions, or community
engagement activities.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and the district's adopted teacher salary
schedule. Indiana CTE teachers with significant industry experience may qualify for salary schedule
