About the role

Incumbents coordinate and implement the technical support, maintenance, use and enhancement of network infrastructure critical to the operation of the College. Essential Functions: Design, administer, configure, install, update, and maintain networks, operating systems, servers, desktops, and wireless access systems, and performs related application upgrades; Administer, operate, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot network infrastructure; work may involve analyzing complex network-related problems and issues, including outages, slowness, or configurations; configuring and maintaining network switches, routers, firewalls, and UPS units; updating configurations; and installing and repairing switches, phone system servers, cables and related modules; Administer, operate, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot IP phone systems and support applications related to emergency responder, contact center, and voicemail systems; Coordinate project operations related to developing, updating, and/or implementing network infrastructure; work may involve preparing project plans, coordinating with vendors and staff, and ensuring that all operations are performed in accordance with applicable laws, policies, standards, and procedures; Coordinate with vendors, end users, and other internal and external staff, departments, and agencies, and attend meetings, to communicate information, provide technical expertise and assistance related to assigned area of operation, and facilitate project and departmental operations; Work closely with Internet and MPLS service provider on service outages, bandwidth issues, upgrades, and service changes; Work closely with IT / System Engineers on network configurations for new hardware deployments, changes, and upgrades; Work closely with cabling vendors for installation of new data/voice drops, troubleshooting and repairs of existing drops; Design, develop, implement, and manage physical networking requirements, including managed switches, firewalls, and wireless devices; Manage, maintain, and design private IPv4 network scopes, subnets, routes, and policies to fit within the existing network structure without conflict; Manage, maintain and assign public IPv4 addressing, DNS assignments, NAT policies, and associated firewall security rules; Maintain regular security patching and configuration backups of all networking equipment; Reviews and manages access control rules on switches and firewalls; Apply interface and/or port VLAN access configuration changes on switches; Monitor and troubleshoot wireless network, access point, and authentication issues; Monitor network utilization and bandwidth requirements; Perform other duties as assigned.

Metropolitan Community College is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1915 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute. The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs. Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses (including MCC-Online) on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River, located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; and MCC-Penn Valley, located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri. MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well.
