About the role

As a Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Scientist, you will be responsible for the research, development and evaluation of NWP models and associated processes to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts. Key responsibilities include: - Developing new approaches and methodologies to improve the representation of physical processes in NWP models - Undertaking research to understand the sources of error and uncertainty in NWP models - Evaluating new model configurations and parameterisation schemes - Liaising with internal and external collaborators to exchange knowledge and best practices - Contributing to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Met Office's operational NWP systems - Presenting work at scientific conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals
