This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, flexible hours, primarily day shift to meet educational needs of staff including the off shifts (ex. nights). The position will provide primary nursing practice and educational support and expertise to the nursing departments. Education will focus on staff certifications (including CPR, ACLS, and PALS), emergency staff preparedness (including not limited to Code Blue and Rapid Response protocols), and general nursing tasks (ex. IV access, blood administration, chest tube placement. EKG interpretation). This position will also oversee the clinical development and maintenance of Advanced Certifications (ex. AHAR, STROKE) Candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as functioning as an effective team player. This role will report to the VP of Patient Care Services.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
· Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio is required
· Minimum of 5 years working as a bedside nurse in an acute care setting with expertise in nursing tasks
· Strong overall knowledge base regarding patient and RN/NA staff education
· ACLS/PALS certification, required within 6 months of accepting position
· CPR/BLS certification, required within 90 days of accepting position
· ACLS and BLS instructor within 1 year of accepting position
· Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
· Demonstrates competence in educating staff RN’s for critical care and general nursing tasks
· Must be a team player and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with staff and providers
Duties:
· Work in conjunction with the team for general needs of organizational development (Mercer Health and MHMG).
· Coordinate preceptor duties and assist with orientation process of new employees on the nursing units.
· Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop curriculum for new employee orientation process and continuing education needs
· Work in collaboration with hospital managers to plan and implement competency assessments and in-service for future special procedures and equipment training for nursing staff.
· Mentor and support to the front line staff for clinical skill development
· Participates in Policy and Procedure oversite with clinical leadership.
· Participation in hospital committees as needed.
· Assess and evaluate educational materials for clinical staff.
· Function as a strong resource to nursing leaders for providers and clinical staff related to education, and patient care needs.
· Assist with quality monitors compliance and education.
· Primary oversite to the Advanced Certification programs (ex. AHAR and Stroke). This includes staying up to date with program enhancements, evidence-based practices, and operational development to meet certification requirements.
· Work as a liaison to the Quality department for general Joint Commission needs.
