Maplewood Intermediate (6th Grade House Model)
Maplewood Intermediate is seeking a highly collaborative and student-centered 6th-grade, teacher to join our 5/6 intermediate school. This position operates within a two-teacher “house” model, where one teacher provides math instruction and the other teaches English Language Arts, science, and social studies. Teachers work in close partnership to create a consistent, supportive, and engaging experience for all students.
The ideal candidate is skilled in building strong relationships with students and cultivating a positive classroom community where all learners feel connected and supported. This role requires the ability to establish clear routines and expectations, foster student engagement, and proactively support both academic and behavioral growth.
Collaboration is essential in this role. Teachers work closely with their house partner and team to co-plan, problem-solve, and respond to student needs. Job Title: Intermediate Teacher (Grades 5 and 6)
Classification/FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Building Principal
Position Summary: The Intermediate Teacher plans and delivers high-quality instruction that supports the
academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. The teacher creates a safe, inclusive learning
environment and collaborates with colleagues and families to promote student success. Educators in the
Menasha Joint School District demonstrate a commitment to student-centered learning, collaboration,
integrity, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Learning:
● Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction that promotes student engagement and academic
growth.
● Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students with disabilities,
multilingual learners, and advanced learners.
● Use instructional strategies and technology that support critical thinking, problem solving, and
collaboration.
● Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction
accordingly.
Classroom Environment and Student Support
● Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
● Implement classroom management practices that promote student responsibility and engagement.
● Supervise students in classrooms and other school settings to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
● Support students’ academic and social-emotional development.
Professional Responsibilities and Collaboration
● Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and learning goals.
● Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, and support staff to improve instructional practices
and student outcomes.
● Maintain accurate student records, grades, and required documentation.
● Participate in professional learning and ongoing professional development.
● Follow district policies and comply with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
● Valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license: Regular Education (1777) or Elementary/Middle (1088/2088) with
proper grade certification
Physical and Work Requirements
This position may require:
● Standing and walking for extended periods
● Sitting and working at a computer for extended periods
● Lifting or assisting students up to approximately 45 pounds, with or without reasonable
accommodation
● Bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling while assisting students as needed
