About the role

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Instrumentation Technician builds, installs, tests, and maintains instrumentation and control systems used across projects. Responsibilities include wiring and assembly of instrumentation components, integration of sensors, and troubleshooting of electrical and communication issues in both shop and field environments. The role supports ongoing operation of these systems through field installations, system setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and training of operators and field personnel on proper system use at active construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, wire and configure instrumentation systems including sensor modules, control boxes, CAN bus networks, GPS units, and related components.
  • Build cable harnesses, terminate connectors, install enclosures, and verify correct functionality.
  • Perform commissioning and field setup of data acquisition systems; travel to jobsites as required.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and communication issues, perform diagnostics and repairs in both the shop and field.
  • Maintain detailed records of builds, repairs, and site visits.
  • Support testing and validation of systems prior to deployment, including low-voltage wiring, CAN bus communication, data acquisition hardware and associated software.
  • Assist with shop housekeeping and ensure safety and quality standards are maintained.
  • Collaborate effectively with field technicians, project teams, and supervisors to meet deployment schedules.

  • Ability to read wiring schematics
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues
  • Ability to work independently in the field
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and project teams
  • Ability to work safely on construction sites
  • Ability to learn new systems and retain procedures
  • Knowledge of 4-20 mA signal loops, understanding how they are used in instrumentation systems.
  • Proficient with basic tools, meters and test equipment; ability to follow technical documentation and build specifications.
  • Willing to travel to job-locations as needed.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

Required

  • Proven hands-on experience in instrumentation, electrical wiring or similar technical role.
  • Familiarity with low-voltage wiring, sensors, and wiring practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to maintain accurate logs and records.

Desired

  • Prior experience working on active construction sites in instrumentation or control systems role.
  • Experience with assembly of cable harnesses and connectors in industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with electronics soldering or PCB assembly.
  • Comfortable using documentation systems and inventory management software
