Base Salary: $180,000–$320,000 annually*
Ufinity Ventures is sharing a full-time career opportunity with micro1 for a Member of Technical Staff (MTS), Frontier AI.
This is a core technical role for an experienced professional who can operate at the intersection of AI research, data, evaluation, and real-world AI systems.
The selected professional will act as a technical owner responsible for improving model and system performance through rigorous evaluation, failure analysis, data design, and iterative development.
You will work closely with researchers, domain experts, operators, and cross-functional teams to ensure experimental work produces clean and defensible research signals—and that those signals translate into meaningful improvements in deployed AI systems.
What You'll Do
- Own research and evaluation initiatives end-to-end, including problem framing, data design, quality calibration, and signal validation.
- Design machine-learning-oriented data systems, including task definitions, annotation schemas, rubrics, incentives, and pipelines optimized for downstream model performance.
- Analyze model and system failures to identify root causes, edge cases, and opportunities for improvement.
- Translate ambiguous real-world behaviors into structured evaluation frameworks and new data categories.
- Work closely with researchers and domain experts to calibrate quality early and continuously improve research-signal quality.
- Rapidly iterate on evaluations, datasets, and feedback loops to improve system performance.
- Act as a quality gate by challenging claims, pausing work, or recommending scope changes when research signals or data integrity are insufficient.
- Partner with cross-functional and client-facing teams to translate research progress into clear and credible narratives grounded in evidence.
- Identify gaps in data and evaluation coverage and recommend where to invest, iterate, or stop based on learnings and impact.
What We're Looking For
- Strong judgment regarding research-signal quality and the ability to determine when work is—or is not—ready to be externalized.
- Experience designing ML-oriented datasets, evaluation frameworks, and quality-assurance processes.
- Ability to translate messy, real-world system behavior into structured research and evaluation opportunities.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, with a strong bias toward ownership and decisive action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when explaining technical trade-offs, limitations, and signal strength to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work directly with experts throughout project kickoff, calibration, and iteration.
- A systems-level mindset with an interest in improving end-to-end model or agent performance, rather than focusing solely on isolated components.
Preferred Experience
The following experience would be particularly valuable:
- Experience with reinforcement learning environments, simulators, or feedback-driven training systems.
- Experience improving agentic systems or AI systems operating within real-world workflows.
- Prior work embedded in applied research or production environments with direct impact on deployed systems.
- Experience with evaluation design for complex or real-world tasks.
- Familiarity with expert incentive design and expert engagement in high-stakes technical projects.
Compensation & Benefits
The stated national base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000–$320,000.
Employees may also be eligible for:
- Equity compensation.
- Performance-based bonuses, depending on role and company policies.
- Health-insurance benefits, including reimbursement support.
- Paid time off.
- 401(k) plan with company match.
- Additional benefits designed to support a high-performing, remote-first workforce.
