Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and analytical Business and Economic Reporter with a sophisticated understanding of financial and economic reporting principles. This role requires the ability to translate complex data into clear, accessible stories for readers under deadline, while actively collaborating with the North Bay Business Journal and all Press Democrat newsrooms.

What You Will Do:

• Develop and cover a dedicated beat focused on business news, economic policy, market trends, and their impact across Sonoma and Napa counties

• Produce in-depth enterprise stories that uncover underlying economic shifts and policy effects

• Respond quickly to breaking news in the financial and corporate sectors, providing accurate and timely updates for digital platforms

• Generate daily, data-driven content by actively analyzing public records, economic indicators, and corporate filings

• Collaborate daily with reporters and editors across all Press Democrat newsrooms, including the North Bay Business Journal, to share resources and broaden regional coverage

• Translate complex financial data and jargon into clear, accessible, and compelling narratives for a general audience

What You Will Bring:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

• Strong understanding of fundamental business and economic concepts

• Ability to analyze and interpret raw data (e.g., government statistics, SEC filings, financial statements) and use it to drive narrative

• Proficiency in Spanish (Preferred)

• Solid command of AP style and the capacity to write with clarity, accuracy, and speed under deadline pressure

• Familiarity with multimedia tools (photography, basic video shooting and editing) and social media platforms

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly range is $28.33 - $35.22. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility). Conditions of Employment:

• Travel – This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
