Job Title: Mechatronics Engineer
Location: PALAKKAD
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Mechatronics Engineer to join our hardware team in building the next generation of outdoor autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will transition from academic theory to real-world deployment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Robotics Hardware & Electronics Integration
System Assembly: Lead the physical integration of electronic sub-systems, including custom PCB mounting and robust enclosure assembly.
Cable Harnessing: Design and fabricate durable, weather-resistant wiring harnesses optimized for high-vibration outdoor environments.
Power Systems: Integrate Battery Management Systems (BMS) and DC-DC converters to manage stable power distribution across the platform.
2. Embedded Systems & Motion Control
Firmware & Debugging: Flash and validate firmware on microcontrollers (ESP32/STM32) and troubleshoot low-level bootloader or communication issues.
Actuation & Tuning: Calibrate motor drivers and fine-tune PID control loops to ensure precise steering and smooth motion profiles.
Validation: Perform "hardware bring-up" and verify that encoder feedback aligns perfectly with physical movement.
3. Mechanical Design & Actuation
Drive Systems: Design and integrate mechanical assemblies, including gearboxes, shafts, couplings, and wheel configurations.
Component Selection: Evaluate and select appropriate motors (DC, BLDC, or Servo) based on torque and environmental requirements.
Robustness: Ensure mechanical integrity and precision alignment for all motors, sensors, and structural components under field conditions.
4. Sensor Integration & Field Testing
Sensor Fusion: Physically mount and align LiDAR, IMU, GPS, and Camera arrays to optimize field-of-view and minimize vibration interference.
Protocol Analysis: Verify data integrity across CAN bus, I2C, and UART using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Field Deployment: Execute outdoor test cycles, perform root-cause analysis on hardware failures, and collect log data for iterative performance improvements.
5. Documentation & Quality Assurance
Technical Records: Maintain detailed mechanical drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and interconnect diagrams using KiCad or Lucidchart.
Lifecycle Tracking: Log hardware bugs and maintain "vitals" sheets for each prototype to track performance over time.
Standardized Testing: Follow structured checklists for quality control and system validation during the bring-up phase.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical, ECE, or EEE.
Circuit & Hardware Literacy: * Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics.
Hands-on experience with multimeters for troubleshooting continuity, voltage, and signal integrity.
Mechanical & Assembly Tooling: * Practical experience with hand tools (crimpers, wire strippers, etc.) and basic soldering.
Fundamental understanding of motors, gear systems, and general mechanical assembly.
Embedded Programming: * Foundational knowledge of C/C++.
Ability to navigate microcontrollers to modify GPIO assignments, toggle pins, and perform basic hardware-level debugging.
Core Mindset: A proactive "tinkerer" who enjoys hands-on problem solving, disassembling systems to understand their mechanics, and iterative prototyping.
Preferred Qualifications (The "Plus" Factors)
Software & Ecosystems: Familiarity with the Linux command line, ROS (Robot Operating System), and version control using Git.
Design Tools: Exposure to CAD software for mechanical design or modeling.
Systems Knowledge: Prior experience with sensor integration (LiDAR, IMU) and PID control systems.
Proven Passion: Participation in competitive robotics (e.g., Robocon, Formula Student, drone clubs) or a portfolio of personal robotics projects.
What We Offer
Mentorship: Direct access to senior robotics engineers with years of industry experience.
Hardware Access: Work with high-end sensors (LiDAR, RTK-GPS) and industrial-grade motor controllers.
