Role Description:
The Mechanical Designer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Chennai. The Mechanical Designer will create and revise technical drawings and 3D models for industrial machinery and automation systems, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and quality standards. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with engineers and project teams to develop machine layouts, components, and assemblies, and preparing detailed documentation for manufacturing and installation. The role involves using CAD tools to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, and reliability, and supporting R&D initiatives with prototype development and design improvements. The Mechanical Designer will also assist in reviewing designs against customer requirements and industry standards and coordinate with production and procurement teams to resolve design-related issues.
Qualifications
- Candidates should be based in the Manufacturing Automation Industry (SPM).
- Working knowledge of industrial machinery, automation equipment, and manufacturing processes.
- Candidates should possess skills in Machine Design and Mechanical Engineering.
- Proficiency in common CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and basic engineering analysis tools.
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Select suitable materials, standard parts, and mechanical systems (bearings, actuators, couplings, etc.).
- Review manufacturability and assembly feasibility.
- Create BOM (Bill of Materials), revision control, and design release notes.
- Support with technical documentation for customer approval or design review.
- Coordinate with the procurement, machining, and electrical teams.
- Support the sales and project team with technical clarifications during client discussions.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications, and to prepare clear technical documentation.
- Familiarity with fabrication processes, materials selection, and basic tolerance and GD&T concepts.
- Good communication skills and willingness to work on-site in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
