Job details:
Mechanical Design & Mechatronics Engineer
Nexatom — Bengaluru (Onsite)
We are building advanced deep-tech systems spanning photonics, medical instrumentation, embedded electronics, precision optomechanics, FPGA-based systems, and high-performance scientific hardware.
We are looking for a highly hands-on Mechanical Design & Mechatronics Engineer who enjoys building real systems — not just making CAD models.
This role involves designing compact precision products, rapidly prototyping them using 3D printing/CNC workflows, and developing embedded control systems for mechanisms involving motors, sensors, actuators, levers, servo systems, and precision assemblies.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable moving quickly between CAD, firmware, prototyping, testing, debugging, and vendor coordination in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Design compact mechanical systems and assemblies using Fusion 360 / FreeCAD
- Develop precision optomechanical assemblies, laser mounts, medical-device mechanisms, electronics enclosures, and 19-inch rack systems
- Build and iterate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and rapid prototyping workflows
- Develop embedded firmware on STM32 / ESP32 platforms
- Interface and control:
- Servo motors
- BLDC/DC motors
- Stepper motors
- Sensors and actuators
- Positioning systems
- Work on mechanism design involving:
- Arms
- Levers
- Motion systems
- Precision positioning
- Compact electromechanical assemblies
- Coordinate with fabrication and machining vendors for rapid iteration
- Perform hands-on assembly, testing, debugging, and validation of prototypes
- Assist in product transition from proof-of-concept to deployable systems
- Work closely with electronics, FPGA, optics, and software teams
- Maintain BOMs, fabrication drawings, assembly documentation, and revision tracking
- Improve manufacturability, robustness, thermal management, and serviceability of systems
Required Skills
- 0–3 years of experience in mechanical/mechatronics/product design
- Strong CAD skills in Fusion 360 and/or FreeCAD
- Good understanding of:
- Mechanical design fundamentals
- Tolerances and fits
- Bearings, couplings, fasteners, and motion systems
- Manufacturing methods
- Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D printing workflows
- Familiarity with CNC fabrication workflows and vendor coordination
- Embedded firmware development using STM32 and/or ESP32
- Experience interfacing sensors, motors, and actuators
- Hands-on debugging and prototyping mindset
- Ability to independently build and iterate systems quickly
Good to Have
- Exposure to optics, photonics, or laser systems
- Experience with medical devices or scientific instrumentation
- Familiarity with motion control systems and precision mechanics
- PCB design exposure
- Basic electronics debugging skills
- Experience with ROS, robotics, or automation systems
- Understanding of thermal management and enclosure design
- Familiarity with Python/C/C++
What We Value
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Curiosity and ownership
- Fast execution and iteration
- Practical engineering mindset
- Ability to work across disciplines
- Willingness to work hands-on in the lab
- Comfort with ambiguity and startup-style development
Location
Bengaluru (Onsite)
Compensation
₹12–18 LPA (depending on skills and experience)
