They translate functional requirements into physical solutions by creating 3D CAD models, generating technical drawings, selecting materials, and overseeing prototypes through the product lifecycle.Core ResponsibilitiesConceptual Design: Brainstorm and define initial design architectures and functional product specifications.CAD/CAM Modeling: Create accurate 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings using software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).Prototyping & Testing: Build prototypes and perform structural, thermal, or kinematic simulations to ensure designs meet safety and performance standards.Material & Component Selection: Choose optimal materials and integrate standard OEM components based on cost, weight, and environmental constraints.Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Ensure designs can be easily manufactured, assembled, and serviced.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with electrical, manufacturing, and procurement teams, as well as suppliers, to validate designs and resolve engineering changes.Essential Skills & QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Technical Software: Proficiency in 3D modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or AutoCAD.Engineering Standards: Deep understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), material properties, and manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, sheet metal).Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and clear technical communication.Typical Work
