Job Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer – Design & Planning is responsible for HVAC system design, load calculations, planning, coordination, and preparation of drawings, BOQs, and schedules to support successful execution of HVAC projects within time, cost, and quality parameters.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC Design & Engineering
• Perform HVAC heat load calculations using standard methods/software.
• Design HVAC systems such as Chillers, VRF/VRV, DX, AHU, FCU, ventilation, and exhaust systems.
•Select HVAC equipment in compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
• Prepare HVAC design basis reports (DBR) and technical submissions.
• Ensure energy-efficient and cost-effective system design.
Drawings & Documentation
• Prepare HVAC layout drawings, ducting layouts, piping layouts, and schematics.
• Develop detailed shop drawings and coordinated MEP drawings.
• Prepare equipment schedules and technical datasheets.
• Review and update drawings as per site requirements and consultant comments.
• Prepare as-built drawings upon project completion.
Planning & Scheduling
• Prepare HVAC project execution plans and timelines.
• Develop material requirement plans (MRP) and procurement schedules.
• Coordinate with procurement and projects teams for timely material availability.
• Monitor project progress against planning schedules and report deviations.
BOQ, Estimation & Cost Control
• Prepare BOQs, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates for HVAC systems.
• Support tendering and budgeting activities.
• Assist in value engineering and cost optimization.
• Support billing and variation order preparation.
Coordination & Interface Management
• Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, fire-fighting, civil, and architectural teams.
• Attend design coordination and client meetings.
• Address design-related RFIs and technical clarifications.
• Support site teams with technical guidance and troubleshooting.
Standards, Codes & Compliance
• Ensure designs comply with applicable IS, ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, and local standards.
• Follow project specifications, client requirements, and statutory guidelines.
• Ensure documentation meets quality management system requirements.
Support During Execution & Commissioning
• Provide technical support during HVAC installation.
• Assist site teams during testing, commissioning, and balancing.
• Coordinate with OEMs and consultants during commissioning activities.
• Resolve design-related issues identified at site.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong knowledge of HVAC system design and planning.
• Proficiency in reading architectural and MEP drawings.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and coordination abilities.
• Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
