Key Responsibilities :
● Design & Modeling: Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for fixed-wing and multirotor UAVs using SolidWorks, CATIA, or Fusion 360.
● Aerodynamic and Mechanical Calculations: Perform aircraft calculations for design and development.
● Structural Optimization: Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure airframe integrity while minimizing weight for maximum flight endurance.
● Payload Integration: Design custom mounts and enclosures for sensors, cameras, and flight controllers, ensuring proper Center of Gravity (CG) and vibration isolation.
● Material Selection: Work with aerospace-grade materials, including Carbon Fiber (CFRP), Glass Fiber, high-strength aluminum, and engineering polymers.
● Prototyping: Build functional prototypes using 3D printing (FDM/SLA), CNC machining, and laser cutting for rapid iterative testing.
● DFM/DFA: Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles to ensure the UAV can be easily mass-produced and field-maintained.
Technical Requirements Education & Experience :
● Degree: B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
● Experience: 1–3 years in mechanical design (UAV/Drone experience is a major plus). Hard Skills
● CAD Proficiency: Expert knowledge of parametric modeling and assembly management.
● Manufacturing: Understanding of composite layup, injection molding, and sheet metal fabrication.
● GD&T: Ability to apply tolerances to ensure precise fitment of rotating parts and joints.
● Aerodynamics: Basic understanding of airflow and drag to assist in housing and fairing design.
Soft Skills & Competencies :
● Agility: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment with rapid design pivots.
● Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures identified during flight tests.
● Detail-Oriented: Precision-focused mindset, as 1mm of misalignment can affect flight stability.
