Join us to be part of a team that is transforming the energy landscape and contributing to a cleaner, greener world.
About The Role
The role involves leading the design and development of Hydro Generator Auxiliary Systems for assigned projects. You will be responsible for executing process design engineering activities, performing calculations to size auxiliary systems and related equipment, and specifying components to ensure compliance with technical standards, quality, and project timelines. Your expertise will be crucial in coordinating with cross-functional teams, managing technical documentation, and ensuring the seamless integration of auxiliary systems within hydroelectric power plants. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to large-scale renewable energy projects, ensuring the delivery of reliable and efficient auxiliary systems that support the overall performance and safety of hydro generators. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance while driving continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 6 years of experience in designing auxiliary systems for hydro generators and turbines is required, with a total of more than 9 years of professional experience in relevant engineering disciplines. Candidates should have foundational knowledge in layout and arrangement, mechanical and electrical design, piping, instrumentation, and control systems. A thorough understanding of hydro power plant operations and familiarity with design standards for hydro generator and turbine products are essential. Proficiency in CAD tools such as AUTOCAD and UG NX, along with MS Office and PLM systems like CORELLA, is expected. Strong technical acumen, excellent communication skills in English, and the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments are critical. Additional language skills in French, Portuguese, or Mandarin are considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Define project scope aligned with contractual specifications and lead execution through technical guidelines, design reviews, and incorporating lessons learned.
- Conduct contract analysis, project planning, risk identification, and conceptual design/layout development. Prepare technical queries, deviation requests, and assist in client communications.
- Perform basic design calculations, develop P&ID diagrams, and prepare procurement specifications for auxiliary systems including heat exchangers, thrust bearings, oil injection systems, exhaust systems, braking and jacking systems, dust extraction, and firefighting systems.
- Organize design review meetings at the basis of design (BD) and detailed design (DD) stages to ensure alignment and quality standards.
- Ensure timely release of engineering documentation for manufacturing and assembly, including material lists and specifications for auxiliary systems components.
- Manage interface coordination with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional teams to facilitate smooth project execution.
- Lead work-packages with the product definition team, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to project timelines.
- Contribute to lessons learned documentation to enhance equipment specifications and project processes.
- Manage non-conformity reports and supplier deviation requests related to auxiliary systems, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities, such as 8D or 5 Why’s, to address engineering issues and improve systems reliability.
- Apply principles of reliability, quality, safety, and cost management in all engineering activities.
