About The Role
The Hydro Generator Auxiliaries Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the detailed design and technical execution of auxiliary systems for hydro generators within assigned projects. This role involves performing comprehensive process design engineering activities, including calculations to size auxiliary systems and associated equipment, specifying components, and ensuring the technical integrity of the designs. The engineer will oversee the procurement and delivery of equipment, ensuring compliance with quality standards, project timelines, and relevant laws and regulations. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to facilitate seamless interface management and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
This position offers an opportunity to work on innovative hydroelectric projects, contributing to sustainable energy solutions while developing technical expertise in hydro generator auxiliary systems. The successful candidate will be a proactive team player, capable of managing multiple tasks, and committed to continuous improvement and high-quality deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of design experience specifically in auxiliary systems for hydro generators and turbines, with a total professional experience exceeding 9 years.
- Solid understanding of engineering disciplines including layout & arrangement, mechanical & electrical design, piping design, P&ID diagrams, instrumentation, and control systems.
- In-depth knowledge of hydro power plant operations and familiarity with hydro generator and turbine products and applicable design standards.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as AUTOCAD and UG NX, MS Office Suite, and PLM systems like CORELLA.
- Strong technical and scientific background with a willingness to continuously learn and develop new skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages such as French, Portuguese, or Mandarin is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Define project scope and develop detailed plans aligned with contract specifications, leading execution through technical guidelines and design reviews.
- Conduct contract analysis, project planning, risk assessment, and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Perform basic design calculations, develop P&ID diagrams, and prepare procurement specifications for auxiliary systems including heat exchangers, thrust bearings, oil injection, mist exhaust, braking and jacking systems, dust extraction, and firefighting systems.
- Organize and lead design review meetings at various project stages to ensure design integrity and compliance.
- Ensure timely release of engineering documents, manufacturing instructions, and material lists related to auxiliary systems.
- Manage interface activities with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional teams to facilitate seamless project execution.
- Coordinate with product definition teams to manage work-packages and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Contribute to lessons learned documentation and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment specifications and project outcomes.
- Handle non-conformity reports, supplier deviation requests, and conduct root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D or 5 Why’s to resolve engineering issues effectively.
- Apply principles of reliability, quality, safety, and cost management throughout the design and execution processes.

Work Model
