We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer (MEP & Utilities) to join our Engineering and Design team. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across HVAC, Piping, Plumbing, Firefighting, and Plant Utilities.
In this role, you will be responsible for decoding complex project requirements and Bills of Quantities (BOQs), translating them into actionable engineering data, and directing a team of AutoCAD Draftsmen to deliver precise, flawless construction drawings. You will report directly to the Director of Design and Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- MEP Design & BOQ Analysis: Thoroughly analyze project design briefs, client requirements, and technical specifications for HVAC, Piping, Plumbing, Firefighting, and Utility systems. Evaluate and validate BOQs against actual engineering requirements.
- Drawing Supervision & Delivery: Lead and guide AutoCAD Draftsmen to prepare, modify, and finalize:
- Good for Construction (GFC) layout drawings.
- Schematic & Isometric Diagrams (Flow diagrams, P&IDs, single-line layouts).
- Schedule Drawings (Equipment schedules, valve schedules, and piping hook-ups).
- Technical Review & Quality Control: Perform rigorous technical checks on all draftsman outputs to ensure strict compliance with local/international codes (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC, NBC) and error-free spatial coordination (preventing clashes between HVAC ducts, pipes, and cable trays).
- Inter-Disciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with site execution and procurement departments to resolve design conflicts.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain design logs, revision controls, and progress reports. Provide regular technical updates to the Director of Design and Engineering.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience: 3–8 years of proven experience in MEP design, estimation, and drawing management.
Technical Domain Expertise:
- HVAC: Heat load calculations, duct sizing, Chilled Water/VRF system routing.
- Piping & Utilities: Compressed air, steam, chilled/hot water piping, and plant utility routing.
- Plumbing & Firefighting: Water supply, drainage network design, sprinkler layouts, and hydrant systems.
Software & Tools:
- High proficiency in reading, checking, and navigating AutoCAD (hands-on drafting capability is a plus, though the primary task is directing draftsmen).
- Exposure to Revit MEP or pipe-sizing/heat-load software is an added advantage.
Soft Skills: Exceptional eye for detail, strong leadership skills to drive a drafting team, and clear professional communication.
