SECGUARD - SECURITY GUARD

SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff. Establish a security presence by patrolling hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact appropriate law enforcement when necessary. Monitors security, fire, and environmental alarms. Responds to and resolves problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary. Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment. Document incidents on appropriate reports as required.

JOB DUTIES

Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas

Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.

Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft

Responds to and resolves problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary.

Maintain required certifications and licensing

Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists

Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to alarms and assist when needed.

Operate vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code

Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details

Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines

Report and document incidents, suspicious activities and hazards

 SPECIFIC JOB DEMANDS

Strength: Heavy Work -Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 50 - 100 Lbs. occasionally, 20 - 50 Lbs. frequently, 10 - 20 Lbs. constantly.

Climbing: Occasionally - Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet, and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is important.

Stooping: Frequently - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling: Frequently - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.

Crouching: Frequently - Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.

Reaching: Frequently - Extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

Handling: Frequently - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift automobile gears.

Talking: Occasionally - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing: Occasionally - Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.

Near Acuity: Occasionally - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Accommodation: Frequently - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.

Color Vision: Frequently - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

High School diploma or equivalent Associates degree in Criminal Justice and/or one-year experience in safety, security, law enforcement, or related field preferred. High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential information. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations. Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations. Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies. Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format. Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations. 

All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check. Must be available for all shifts. 

Must have valid driver’s license.

BLS required with first ninety days of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Patient care/hospital environment. A large part of work time is standing or walking. Subject to certain distasteful patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases. May be exposed to potential hazards such as physical contact with patients, chemicals, body wastes, fluids and other possible infectious material.
