About the McHenry County Board of Review:
The McHenry County Board of Review (BOR) is a county-level body that ensures fairness and consistency in property tax assessments. It provides a vital function in the property tax system, allowing taxpayers to have their assessments reviewed locally and ensuring that assessments are applied equitably.
Position Overview:
The McHenry County Board of Review is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a member of the Board. Board members are responsible for reviewing property assessment complaints, analyzing evidence presented, conducting hearings, and making impartial decisions based on the law and the facts at hand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate property assessment requests and complaints brought before the Board, ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all parties involved.Conduct hearings and participate in deliberations to determine appropriate resolutions for cases.Ensure compliance with Illinois property tax laws and regulations in the decision-making process.Collaborate with other board members to make well-informed, objective decisions.Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant laws, precedents, and regulations pertaining to property tax assessment.Prepare written opinions and decisions that are clear, concise, and sound.Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current on relevant legislative changes and best practices.
Requirements:
- Required to be a McHenry County Resident, (35 ILCS 200/6-5)Required to have prior experience in assessments and/or real estate appraisal. (35 ILCS 200/6-5)Required to have passed the examination prepared and administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue in the prior three (3) years. (35 ILCS 200/6-10)Required to maintain the same political party make, a republican under the current makeup. (35 ILCS 200/6-34)
Compensation:
Board members are compensated in accordance with the rate established by the county board. The current yearly salary rate is $35,000.
