About the role

The EHS Coordinator will lead all plant environmental, health, and safety compliance and management system functions and activities; train, monitor, and mentor production floor staff, supervisors, and managers in applicable modules of the EHS Management System (EHS Insight).

The role will partner with Ops and the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) to build greater awareness and a proactive mindset, fostering employee engagement towards an interdependent safety culture.

Responsibilities of the EHS Coordinator:

  • Lead all plant environmental, health, and safety compliance and management system functions and activities; train, monitor, and mentor production floor staff, supervisors, and managers in applicable modules of the EHS Management System (EHS Insight).
  • Responsible for partnering with Ops and the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) to build greater awareness and a proactive mindset, fostering employee engagement towards an interdependent safety culture.
  • Working under the direction of the NASP Sr. Environmental Engineer and the Director of EHS, implement environmental programs and practices to ensure compliance with various operating permits and required regulatory programs, including RCRA (hazardous waste), stormwater, industrial wastewater, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), and the facility’s Integrated Emergency Action Plan
  • Participates in critical management of change processes, including work with Operations and engineering, to ensure employee safety and environmental compliance are considered and implemented in the design phase of new or proposed projects. 
  • Participate or direct root cause analysis of all injuries, incidents, and near-misses to ultimately guide and implement effective remedial action to prevent recurrence.
  • Champion the JHSC to achieve leading indicator targets on the EHS Balanced Scorecard; work towards employee and supervisor success for the safety component of the hourly and MMIP bonus programs.
  • Responsible for conducting audits in EHS Insight to systematically reduce hazards and ensure regulatory compliance; ensuring corrective actions/preventative actions (CAPAs) are assigned to the right individuals and tracked to completion.
  • Coordinate required OSHA training; lead and train employees and supervisors in all subject areas covered under the Mauser NASP Safety Program, including but not limited to JSAs, risk assessments, and specialized safety trainings.
  • Work with HR to ensure that all new employees and internal transfers receive the required orientation training as necessary before starting their new assignments.
  • Under the direction and guidance of the NASP EHS Director, interface with federal, state, and local environmental and safety agencies on plant issues
  • Managing and implementing compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), USEPA, and State regulations in accordance with government and company requirements; following the guidance and processes established through the EHS management System
  • Coordinating with site leadership at facilities to develop mutually beneficial solutions to complex environmental, health, and safety challenges; assisting in planning and preparation of budgets to ensure that future safety needs are met.
  • Communicating effectively, championing and implementing change with a diverse set of internal and external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements for the EHS Coordinator:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an EHS Coordinator in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese is highly desirable.
  • Preference given to candidates holding the designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), in that order.
  • Experience working with an integrated, computer-based Environmental, Health & Safety Management System.
  • An experienced trainer; able to effectively adapt and deliver EHS training to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent working knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly as they pertain to an industrial setting, including machine guarding, lock-out/tag-out, electrical safe work practices, overhead cranes, powered industrial vehicles, fall protection, chemical safety, and contractor safety management.
  • Experience with environmental regulations and programs, including hazardous waste management, industrial wastewater and storm water, SPCC, and emergency/contingency planning.
  • Experience in OSHA record-keeping related to employee injuries, illnesses, and required employee training.
  • Superior communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, along with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; systematically and objectively evaluating information, consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems, and mastering unfamiliar information, tasks, and situations quickly and effectively;
  • Effective attention to detail with a calm and steady demeanor and a high degree of accuracy under pressure.
  • Intermediate computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office Suite of Products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility of schedule to ensure coverage of all shifts/employees.
