Job details:
Math & Logic Educator (Middle & High School)
“From solving sums → to solving real-world problems”
About SPOT
SPOT is a project-based microschool which brings personalised learning designed for:
- Curious learners
- Gifted & twice-exceptional (2E) children
- Homeschoolers and those who find traditional classrooms limiting
We don’t believe math is about marks.
We believe math is:
- A tool to understand patterns
- A way to build and create
- A language to solve real-world problems
Role Mission
To help students think mathematically, not just perform mathematically — especially at higher levels of complexity and abstraction.
You will work closely with:
- Middle & high school learners
- Gifted learners who need depth, rigor, and challenge
- 2E learners who need flexibility and alternative pathways
What You’ll Do
1. Make Math Real & Applied (Advanced Concepts)
- Teach concepts through:
- Real-world scenarios
- Projects and simulations
- Extend to higher-level applications such as:
- Algebra → modeling real-life situations
- Trigonometry → design, navigation, and structures
- Statistics → data interpretation and decision-making
- Functions → real-world relationships and patterns
Students should see how math works beyond textbooks.
2. Teach Across Middle & High School Levels
- Work with learners across Grades 6–12 (including advanced learners)
- Build strong foundations while also enabling:
- Abstract thinking
- Multi-step problem solving
- Logical reasoning at higher levels
- Prepare and guide students for:
- IGCSE Mathematics (Core & Extended)
- NIOS Mathematics
- Higher-grade conceptual math learning
3. Personalize Learning for 2E & Gifted Learners
- Adapt teaching based on:
- Learning style
- Cognitive profile
- Strength areas
- You will:
- Stretch gifted learners with complex, non-routine problems
- Support 2E learners with alternate pathways and scaffolding
The same concept may be taught differently to each child.
4. Integrate Across SPOT Studios
Math at SPOT is not taught in isolation.
You will collaborate with:
- 🛠️ Maker Studio → measurement, scaling, design
- 💼 Business Studio → cost, pricing, profit, financial modeling
- 💻 AI Studio → logic, data, patterns, algorithms
5. Build Skill-Based Learning Systems
- Design:
- Problem-solving rubrics
- Skill trackers (aligned to SPOT M&E / Skills Builder)
- Track:
- Conceptual understanding
- Application ability
- Logical and analytical reasoning
6. Support Advanced Academic Pathways
- Guide learners through:
- IGCSE Mathematics
- NIOS Mathematics
While maintaining:
- Concept-first learning
- No rote or tuition-style teachin
What We’re Looking For
Must-have:
- Strong conceptual understanding of middle + high school mathematics (including advanced topics)
- Ability to explain complex concepts in simple, multiple ways
- Comfort teaching higher-grade learners and advanced problem solving
- Experience or interest in working with gifted and 2E learners
Bonus:
- Experience in:
- Alternative education / PBL environments
- Olympiad math / competitive problem solving
- Exposure to:
- Financial literacy
- Data science / statistics
- Logical reasoning frameworks
What This Role Is NOT
- Not a tuition teacher
- Not syllabus-first
- Not exam-driven
If your approach is:
“Complete chapter → give worksheet → test”
This role is not for you.
What Success Looks Like
Within 3–6 months:
- Students:
- Apply math in real-world and abstract contexts
- Solve multi-step and non-routine problems
- Clearly explain their reasoning
- Gifted learners:
- Feel challenged and intellectually engaged
- 2E learners:
- Access higher-level math in ways that work for them
Teaching Philosophy (SPOT Lens)
You believe:
- Every child learns differently
- Depth matters more than speed
- Understanding matters more than memorization
- Math is a tool for thinking, not just scoring
Sample Session You Might Run
“Build and scale a small business”
Students:
- Model cost functions
- Set pricing strategies
- Estimate profit using variables
- Analyse scenarios and constraints
This is math in action.
