Responsible for the master production schedule for a set of low-mid complexity production lines at a site to ensure that the plan is delivered balancing production/planning parameters service, safety, stock and costs. This level of work could apply to a Material Planner on a mid-high complexity production/materials site.
Job Purpose
The RM Call-Off Planner is responsible for end-to-end planning and execution of raw material procurement, ensuring timely availability of direct materials to support production plans and customer demand. The role acts as a critical interface between Supply Chain Planning, Procurement, Suppliers, Production, and Logistics to maintain optimal inventory levels while safeguarding supply continuity, working capital efficiency, and service performance.
Scope
This role operates within the Supply Chain function, managing direct material planning, supplier scheduling, and procurement execution for assigned commodities or product lines. The position is responsible for translating demand and production plans into supplier call-offs, monitoring supplier performance, managing inventory risks, and ensuring uninterrupted material availability aligned with business requirements. The role requires strong coordination with global and regional suppliers, procurement teams, and plant operations to proactively mitigate supply risks and optimize procurement efficiency.
Principal Accountabilities
Raw Material Planning & Supplier Call-Off
- Develop and execute raw material call-off plans based on production schedules, demand forecasts, and inventory targets.
- Convert material requirements (MRP outputs) into supplier schedules, purchase orders, and delivery commitments.
- Ensure timely release and follow-up of call-offs with suppliers to maintain material availability aligned with production needs.
- Monitor material shortages, risks, and supply disruptions and drive mitigation actions proactively.
- Maintain visibility of inbound supply pipeline and communicate risks to stakeholders.
Inventory Management & Working Capital Optimization
- Ensure inventory levels are maintained within agreed norms i.e. safety stock, reorder points, and coverage targets.
- Balance supply continuity with inventory optimization to support working capital objectives.
- Monitor excess, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory and drive corrective actions.
- Support inventory reconciliation and cycle count processes related to raw materials.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Align closely with Production Planning, S&OP, Procurement, Warehouse, and Logistics teams to ensure synchronized execution.
- Participate in daily / weekly planning reviews to address material constraints impacting production plans.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and engineering changes by ensuring timely material readiness.
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams for supplier issues impacting material availability.
Systems, Analytics & Reporting
- Execute MRP runs and manage planning parameters within ERP systems (SAP MM / PP).
- Maintain master data accuracy - lead time, safety stock, lot size, sourcing parameters.
- Prepare MIS reports on material availability, supplier OTIF, inventory coverage, and shortages.
- Use data analytics to identify risks, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Support digital initiatives in supply planning automation and reporting dashboards.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Track and improve KPIs such as supplier OTIF, inventory turns, material availability, and shortage reduction.
- Identify opportunities for planning process improvements and automation.
- Support Lean, Six Sigma, and supply chain excellence initiatives related to material planning.
- Contribute to cost optimization through improved planning accuracy and logistics efficiency.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications/ Knowledge/ Experience
(TECHNICAL/ PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS COMPETENCY)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering & master's in business administration (Operations / Supply Chain / International Business) - Essential
- Experience: Upto 8 years of progressive experience in Production Planning / Line Scheduling / Supply Chain Planning & Procurement within a manufacturing setup. - Essential
- Core Expertise: Strong knowledge of demand planning, MRP logic, inventory control, and logistics coordination. - Essential
- System Knowledge: Hands-on experience in SAP (PP/MM) or equivalent ERP tools, advanced Excel proficiency, Power BI, ability to analyze data and generate MIS reports - Essential
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Power BI, knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement practices - Desired
- Certifications: APICS (CPIM/CSCP) or equivalent Supply Chain certification - Preferred
