Public Health Internship Program (PHIP) - Spring 2026

Welcome to the Maryland Department of Health's (MDH) Public Health Internship Program (formerly known as the Public Health Workforce Development Internship Program)! We invite you to join us for our Spring 2026 cohort. This program is designed to establish collaborative partnerships with academic institutions, providing invaluable student internship opportunities and exposing participants to a variety of public health careers. As an intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in areas such as epidemiology, health policy, health education, and community outreach.

MDH has five major divisions - Public Health Services, Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Health Care Financing, and Operations. In addition, the department has 20 boards that license and regulate health care professionals; and various commissions that issue grants, and research and make recommendations on issues that affect Maryland's health care delivery system. We depend on a staff of more than 9,000 and a budget of more than $12 billion to provide needed services to Maryland communities.
