As a Marine Superintendent (Offshore) at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant marine operation of assigned offshore vessels and assets. This role is pivotal in supporting operational excellence, maintaining high standards of marine safety, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, flag State, class, client and company requirements. You will work closely with vessel crews, offshore teams, clients, authorities and shore-based departments to provide effective marine support and drive continuous improvement across assigned operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and oversee the marine performance and operational readiness of assigned offshore vessels and assets.
- Provide marine and operational support to vessel teams, including guidance on navigation, seamanship, cargo operations, offshore activities and emergency response.
- Ensure compliance with applicable maritime legislation, flag State and port State requirements, classification rules, client standards and company policies.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management System, Company Management System and relevant offshore operating procedures.
- Plan, coordinate and follow up on vessel inspections, audits, marine assurance activities, incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Monitor vessel certification, statutory documentation, operational limitations and marine equipment readiness.
- Support the planning and execution of offshore operations, including vessel mobilisation, demobilisation, anchor handling, towing, supply, construction support and other specialist activities, as applicable.
- Maintain close communication with Masters, vessel crews, offshore management, clients, marine warranty surveyors, port authorities and other stakeholders.
- Review operational risk assessments, method statements, permit-to-work arrangements and emergency preparedness plans.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure that health, safety, environmental and quality standards are consistently applied onboard and ashore.
- Support incident, near-miss and non-conformity reporting, investigation and close-out, ensuring lessons learned are communicated effectively.
- Assist with vessel mobilisation, drydock, refit, repair and maintenance activities from a marine operations perspective.
- Monitor operational expenditure and support the preparation and control of marine budgets.
- Support purchasing activities and ensure timely processing of vessel requisitions and operational requirements.
- Visit vessels and offshore locations as required to assess performance, provide guidance, conduct inspections and support onboard teams.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, operational efficiency and sustainability within marine operations.
- Support and mentor Masters, officers and vessel personnel while identifying training and development needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate of Competency as Master Mariner or equivalent marine qualification.
- Relevant offshore marine experience in a senior deck officer or Master role.
- Experience in a shore-based Marine Superintendent, Marine Operations or Offshore Vessel Management position is advantageous.
- Experience with offshore vessels, including offshore support vessels, anchor handling vessels, platform supply vessels, construction vessels, cable vessels or similar vessel types.
- Good knowledge of international maritime legislation, flag State and port State requirements, classification standards and offshore industry practices.
- Experience with marine assurance, vessel inspections, audits, incident investigation and risk management.
- Working knowledge of the ISM Code, ISPS Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW and applicable offshore regulations.
