Company Description
XSub Robotics is a next-generation defence technology company and a joint venture between Planys Technologies, Krishna Defence and Allied Industries Limited and Conceptia Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd. XSub develops intelligent autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and advanced maritime robotic systems for naval and security applications, focusing on long-range autonomy, advanced undersea sensing, and mission-critical underwater operations. At XSub, multidisciplinary engineering teams work across hydrodynamics, propulsion, navigation, perception, autonomy, and mission systems to build indigenous underwater technologies for GPS-denied and high-risk environments. With a fast-paced, product-driven culture, ideas rapidly move from development to real-world sea trials and high-impact defence deployments.
If you’re a roboticist or technologist driven to solve complex, mission-critical challenges, not just incremental problems, XSub offers a rare opportunity to build indigenous undersea autonomy platforms from first principles. You’ll be part of a small, high-caliber team empowered to move fast, take end-to-end ownership, and push the boundaries of what underwater systems can sense, decide, and achieve in one of the most demanding environments on Earth.
Role Description
The Manufacturing & Integration Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai. The role involves managing and optimizing manufacturing and assembly processes for underwater vehicle components and subsystems, while coordinating with fabrication vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery. Responsibilities include resolving manufacturing issues, supporting procurement and cost optimization, leading mechanical assembly integration, maintaining technical documentation, and ensuring workshop safety and compliance. The role also includes vendor development, quality assurance, and mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Create, manage, and continuously improve the manufacturing and assembly process flow for Underwater Vehicle components& subsystems. Identify bottlenecks, optimize cycle times, and implement best practices for process efficiency and standardization.
- Oversee manufacturing activities, provide design/assembly feedback to fabrication vendors, and ensure timely completion. Ensure components meet required mechanical and dimensional accuracy.
- Resolve manufacturing and design-related issues using engineering tools (GD&T, tolerance stack-up, FMEA, RCA) to ensure minimal downtime and quality output
- Select raw materials, consumables, and fasteners based on application, durability, and cost targets. Coordinate with vendors for procurement, negotiate effectively, and maintain material quality, Quantity and on time Delivery as per the internal customer.
- Prepare technical documentation including test reports, build logs, inspection reports, and process sheets. Collaborate with design, testing, procurement, and operations teams to meet development objectives.
- Plan budgets, track manufacturing costs, and support cost optimization in procurement and production decisions.
- Maintain a reliable pool of alternate vendors for fabrication, machining, and procurement.
- Perform quality checks for incoming materials, fabricated components, and outsourced assemblies.
- Lead integration of mechanical subassemblies, seals, housings, pressure vessels, frames, and drive components. Ensure system compatibility and perform assembly-level validation for watertightness, tolerances, and mechanical fit.
- Use machineries, hand tools, power tools, and measurement instruments safely and effectively. Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean, compliant workshop environment.
