Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Jaipur for a Manual Designer – Head of Department at Malabar Group. The role involves leading the manual jewelry design department, developing original design concepts, and translating brand and market requirements into commercially viable collections. The Head of Department will oversee the end-to-end design process, including sketching, detailing, material specifications, and coordination with CAD, production, merchandising, and retail teams to ensure design feasibility and timely execution. Responsibilities include managing and mentoring the design team, setting quality and creativity standards, organizing design reviews, and ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and market trends. The role also includes collaborating with stakeholders on seasonal collections, special lines, and custom projects, while maintaining documentation, workflows, and continuous process improvements within the department.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in manual jewelry design, including sketching, technical detailing, and translating concepts into production-ready designs.
- Demonstrated experience leading or managing a design team, with skills in mentoring, performance management, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Solid understanding of jewelry manufacturing processes, materials, gemstones, and quality standards, with an eye for precision and finish.
- Ability to conduct and apply market and trend research to create commercially relevant collections aligned with brand positioning.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work closely with merchandising, production, and retail teams.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Jewelry Design, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, or a related field; advanced certifications in jewelry design are an advantage.
- Proven experience in a senior design role within the jewelry industry, preferably in high-volume, multi-location retail environments.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with capacity to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain design documentation.
