Company
Our client is a global engineering and manufacturing corporation with multi-billion dollar revenues and operations spanning multiple continents. The organization designs, manufactures, and services a diversified portfolio of engineered products and industrial solutions, serving customers across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, mobility, process industries, and capital goods. With a network of manufacturing plants, R&D centers, and commercial offices across South Asia, the company is a market leader known for engineering excellence, technology leadership, and a strong governance culture. As part of its continued growth strategy in the region, the company is seeking a Managing Director & CEO to lead its South Asia operations.
Position Summary
The Managing Director & CEO – South Asia will be the senior-most business leader for the region, holding full P&L responsibility across all business lines, manufacturing plants, and functions. Reporting to the Global/Regional Leadership (Board and/or Group CEO), the incumbent will be responsible for setting and executing the South Asia strategy, driving profitable revenue growth, ensuring world-class multi-plant manufacturing performance, and building organizational capability to support the company's long-term growth ambitions in the region. This is a highly visible role requiring strong general management credentials, deep operating experience in engineering/manufacturing businesses, and the ability to represent the company with government, industry, and institutional stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the South Asia business strategy, aligned with global/group priorities, to deliver sustainable, profitable growth across all product lines and channels.
• P&L Ownership: Own the full South Asia P&L — revenue, EBITDA, working capital, and return on capital employed (ROCE) — and ensure delivery against Board/Group-approved annual operating plans and budgets.
• Multi-Plant Manufacturing Operations: Provide end-to-end operational leadership across multiple manufacturing plants in the region, driving productivity, quality, safety, cost competitiveness, and on-time delivery through lean/operational excellence programs.
• Manufacturing Strategy & Capex: Lead capacity planning, capital expenditure, and manufacturing footprint decisions (including new plant setups, expansions, and localization initiatives) to support regional growth and global supply chain requirements.
• Sales, Marketing & Business Development: Drive market expansion, key account management, and channel development across South Asia; identify and evaluate new business opportunities, partnerships, joint ventures, and potential acquisitions.
• Organizational Leadership & Talent: Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing senior leadership team across manufacturing, sales, finance, supply chain, HR, and engineering functions; strengthen succession pipelines and leadership depth.
• Governance, Risk & Compliance: Establish robust governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks covering statutory, regulatory, environmental, health & safety (EHS), and quality standards across all plants and offices.
• Stakeholder & Government Relations: Represent the company before the Board, global leadership, government bodies, industry associations, customers, and other key stakeholders; act as the face of the organization in the region.
• Innovation & Digital Transformation: Champion technology adoption, digitalization of manufacturing operations (Industry 4.0), and continuous innovation to strengthen the company's competitive position in South Asia.
Key Responsibilities
• Revenue growth, EBITDA margin, and ROCE achievement against annual and multi-year targets.
• Manufacturing plant performance: OEE, quality, safety (LTIFR), on-time delivery, and cost-per-unit improvement across all plants.
• Market share growth and new business/order wins across key segments and geographies within South Asia.
• Successful execution of capacity expansion, localization, or greenfield/brownfield manufacturing projects within budget and timeline.
• Regulatory and statutory compliance record across all manufacturing locations and corporate entities.
• Leadership bench strength, employee engagement, and organizational capability development.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related discipline) is required.
• MBA or Master's degree in Management/Business Administration from a reputed institute is highly preferred.
Experience
• 20–28 years of progressive experience in engineering, capital goods, or industrial manufacturing businesses, with at least 5–8 years in a Managing Director, CEO, Country Head, or equivalent full P&L leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience managing multi-plant/multi-site manufacturing operations, ideally within a global MNC matrix structure.
• Proven track record of driving profitable growth, operational excellence, and business transformation in a large, complex organization.
• Experience operating within South Asia (India and neighboring markets) with strong understanding of the regulatory, industrial, and customer landscape; exposure to global/matrix reporting structures is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong strategic and financial acumen with demonstrated full P&L ownership and accountability.
• Deep expertise in manufacturing operations, lean/operational excellence methodologies, and supply chain management across multiple facilities.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with global leadership, government bodies, customers, and industry forums.
• Strong leadership presence with a track record of building, mentoring, and inspiring senior cross-functional and multicultural teams.
• High degree of integrity, governance orientation, and risk management discipline consistent with a listed/global MNC environment.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and executive presentation skills, with comfort operating in a matrixed global organization.
