Why this role exists
BUCON has been building civil and structural projects for several decades. Our project control today runs on spreadsheets, messages and the memory of experienced people — which has worked, but it does not scale, and it means we know our cost position weeks after the fact rather than in real time.
We are bringing in one person to fix that permanently: to select the right ERP, implement it properly, and then run it as the operating backbone of the business. This is not an IT support role and it is not a reporting role. It is ownership of how the company plans, procures, bills and measures itself.
The role
- You will run the systems side of the business end to end — first choosing and implementing our ERP, then running it as the backbone of how we plan, procure, bill and measure ourselves.
- That begins with understanding how BUCON actually works today: mapping procurement, subcontractor and client billing, stores, labour and plant & machinery, and identifying where cost and time are genuinely leaking. From there you evaluate construction-specific ERP options — Farvision, In4Velocity, Strategic ERP, Highrise, SAP PS, Odoo-based builds and others — against our real processes rather than a feature matrix, build the business case, negotiate with vendors and recommend the decision. That choice is yours to own; you will not be handed someone else's.
- You then run the implementation: managing the vendor and implementation partner on scope, timelines and configuration, owning data migration across masters, BOQs, open POs, work orders and opening balances, and redesigning the workflows that need redesigning before they get encoded — automating a broken process is worse than leaving it manual. You train the site and office teams, run the cutover, and keep pushing until the parallel Excel files disappear. That last part is the hardest thing in this job and the part we will judge you on.
- Once the system is live, you own what comes out of it: monthly cost-vs-budget by project, committed versus incurred, subcontractor exposure, cash position against certified billing. You tighten the loop between schedule and cost so slippage surfaces in the numbers early rather than at closeout, and you keep extending the platform — management dashboards, integrations, and eventually project-level forecasting.
- You will also be the person management turns to when a number looks wrong, which means you need to know the underlying commercial detail well enough to defend it.
What you need to have
- A degree in civil engineering. This is non-negotiable — you have to be able to argue with a project manager about a BOQ item and win.
- 5+ years total experience, with at least one full ERP implementation in construction, real estate or EPC that you personally drove — either client-side or as a functional consultant. Tell us which modules and what broke.
- Working command of subcontractor RA-bill certification: measurement, BOQ vs. actual, retention, debit notes, mobilisation recovery, GST treatment.
- Real fluency in procurement flow — indent to PO to GRN to bill passing — and in stores and material reconciliation.
- The temperament to push change through people who do not want it, without turning it into a war.
- Advanced Excel, and comfort with Primavera or MS Project (optional).
Helpful, not essential
- NICMAR, RICS SBE, or an M.Tech in Construction Technology & Management.
- Experience at a vendor or SI partner across multiple construction rollouts.
- Exposure to Power BI or similar; basic SQL.
- Any experience with drawing/document management or digital measurement books.
What we are not looking for
- Someone whose ERP experience is having used one as an end user.
- An IT generalist without construction commercial knowledge.
- A pure MIS analyst who wants to build reports from data someone else is responsible for collecting.
