Job Description
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION: B. Tech / M. Tech (Chemical Engineering) & Diploma in Industrial Safety
Relevant Experience
10 -12 years of experience in day-to-day process safety management such as review of Management of Change, RFP, Process Safety Information, BMR, Design Basis, Procedures, Participating in HAZOP or LOPA, PSSR, Incident Investigations, Audits and Asset Integrity Management.
Job Summary
The Manager - Process Safety at PPL Pharma Inc. will lead and manage all aspects of process safety, ensuring a robust safety culture and compliance with all relevant regulations and company standards. This role focuses on preventing incidents, minimizing risks, and driving continuous improvement in process safety performance across all PPL Pharma operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP) and industry best practices.
- Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, and LOPA studies, for new and existing processes, ensuring appropriate risk reduction measures are identified and implemented.
- Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for all process-related modifications, ensuring thorough safety reviews and proper documentation.
- Conduct incident investigations for process safety-related events, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and deliver process safety training programs to employees at all levels, fostering a strong safety awareness and competency.
- Monitor and analyze process safety performance metrics, prepare regular reports for management, and identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and R&D teams to integrate process safety principles into design, operational, and development activities.
- Manage safety instrumented systems (SIS) lifecycle activities, including specification, design, validation, and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs) for new or modified equipment and processes.
- Stay current with emerging process safety regulations, technologies, and best practices, and advise leadership on potential impacts and necessary adjustments.
- Manage a team of process safety professionals, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance management.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering with API pharma
- Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in process safety within the pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and regulations (e.g., OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, EPA 40 CFR Part 68).
- Extensive experience leading and facilitating various Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA).
- Strong understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61511).
- Proven ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively influence and train diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Process Safety Professional (PSP) are highly desirable.
- Experience with risk assessment software and process simulation tools is a plus.
