Team Profile:
Reporting to the Director,
Head of Payroll Operations, APAC and working closely with the rest of the
Alvarez & Marsal Global Payroll Team as well as HR, Benefits, Finance, and the Business, the successful candidate will play a fundamental role in our global payroll operations. As a
Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for both managing
end-to-end payroll processing and supporting
payroll implementation projects across India and selected APAC countries. You will help deliver accurate and timely payroll for approximately
2500+ employees and growing, while contributing to payroll system/process improvements across the region.
Job Roles & Responsibilities:
Regional Compliance & Operations: Manage end-to-end payroll processing for APAC, ensuring compliance with local government regulations and statutory requirements.
Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with third-party payroll providers, ensuring adherence to SLAs, payroll accuracy, and cost control.
Process Improvement: Drive automation, streamline workflows, and implement process improvements (e.g., SOP updates, system enhancements) to enhance efficiency.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and coach regional or country-level payroll team members.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a key liaison with HR, Finance, Tax, and Legal teams on audits, reporting, and equity/bonus calculations.
Payroll Accounting: Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles, with ability to accurately interpret, reconcile, and communicate payroll-related financial data. Collaborate with Global Payroll Accounting team to resolve payroll-related queries from Finance & other teams.
Issue Resolution: Act as the escalation point for complex payroll issues, employee queries, and tax compliance matters.
Payroll Review: Review payroll output reports and provider files prior to release of payment files; investigate and resolve any variances.
Basic Qualifications & Skills:
Experience: Minimum 15+ years of experience in payroll, with strong experience in multi-country APAC payroll operations. Ideally require experience in few of the countries listed: India, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea & Hong Kong
Knowledge: Expertise in country-specific labor laws, statutory reporting, tax codes, and compliance standards within the APAC region.
System Proficiency: Experience with HCM/Payroll systems like Workday or ADP Celergo/Global View
Skills: Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Consulting experience advantage.
Must haves:
Postgraduate qualification with a minimum of
15+ years of experience managing end-to-end payroll processing across multiple
APAC countries.Strong operational knowledge of
India payroll and working experience in at least a few of the following:
Singapore, Australia, China, and other APAC countries.Solid understanding of relevant
employment laws and payroll legislation across APAC.Prior involvement in
payroll system implementation, transitions, or migrations would be an
advantage.Excellent
written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work
independently and collaboratively as part of a
remote, regional team.Strong
customer service focus, with a proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving.Highly
organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage deadlines and evolving priorities.
Advanced Excel skills are essential.
Consulting experience is preferred.
