About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Manager of New Market Initiatives to lead our retail and consumer goods
expansion into Europe, South America, and Japan. This is a pivotal role for a brand at a critical
inflection point — one that requires someone who is equally comfortable building a channel strategy in a spreadsheet and presenting to retail buyers on the ground in Tokyo or São Paulo.
You will report to the VP of International Growth and work cross-functionally with Brand, Supply
Chain, Finance, and Retail Operations to bring our products to new shelves, storefronts, and
consumers around the world.
What you will do :
Market Entry Strategy
• Develop go-to-market strategies tailored to the retail landscape of each target region: Europe
(priority: UK, DACH, Benelux), South America (priority: Brazil, Chile), and Japan.
• Conduct consumer research, competitive benchmarking, and retail channel analysis —
including grocery, specialty, department store, and e-commerce — in each geography.
• Assess regulatory requirements: product labelling, ingredient compliance, import/customs
duties, and retail listing standards per market.
• Build launch business cases including TAM/SAM estimates, channel economics, investment
requirements, and 3-year P&L projections.
Partnerships & Business Development
• Source, evaluate, and onboard local distributors, retail buyers, agents, and marketplace
partners across target regions.
• Negotiate distribution agreements, retailer terms, and co-marketing arrangements aligned to
brand positioning and margin requirements.
• Build enduring relationships with retail category managers, e-commerce platform leads, and
trade marketing counterparts in-market.
• Attend trade shows, buying fairs, and in-store activations to represent the brand and
strengthen partner relationships (e.g. Anuga, NRF, JAPAN SHOP).
Sales & Revenue
• Own a new-market net revenue target, with accountability for distribution breadth, numeric
distribution, and sell-through rates.
• Develop pricing architecture per region accounting for currency exposure, retail margin
expectations, and local competitive benchmarks.
• Build and maintain a structured pipeline of retail account opportunities, reporting weekly on
deal stage, volume potential, and key actions.
• Track in-market performance (sell-in vs. sell-through, inventory turns, promo ROI) and iterate
the commercial model accordingly.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Supply Chain to ensure product availability, lead times, and MOQs are viable for
new-market launch volumes.
• Work with Brand and Creative to localize packaging, in-store materials, and digital assets in
compliance with regional requirements.
• Collaborate with Finance to manage FX exposure, transfer pricing, and new-market budget
allocation.
• Feed regional consumer insights back to the Product and Innovation teams to inform future
NPD for international audiences.
Must-Have:
• 3+ years in international business development, trade sales, or market expansion within
consumer goods, FMCG, retail, or a related category.
• Proven experience launching a brand or product line in at least one of the three target regions,
with measurable commercial outcomes.
• Strong understanding of retail channel dynamics — ranging from modern trade and grocery
multiples to specialty retail and direct-to-consumer e-commerce.
• Track record of negotiating and managing distributor or retail partner relationships across
cultures and time zones.
• Analytical fluency: able to build business cases, interpret sell-through data, and manage a
regional P&L.
• High-energy self-starter who thrives in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with limited
central support.
Nice-to-Have
• Experience with retail e-commerce platforms in target markets (Amazon EU, Mercado Libre,
Rakuten).
• Familiarity with import/export documentation, incoterms, and customs compliance for
consumer products.
• Prior experience working at a scale-up or challenger brand with lean resources and an
entrepreneurial culture.
