Summary Of The Role
The role requires a professional with a strong understanding of land laws governing the acquisition and leasing of land for renewable energy projects across various states in India. The individual should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated, with the ability to support the organisation on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters related to land. This role will involve frequent travel to multiple project locations within India.
Key Responsibilities
- Land Acquisition Strategy & Compliance
- Develop and structure land acquisition strategies based on prevailing state-specific land laws.
- Formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with best industry practices for land acquisition in renewable energy projects.
- Ensure that the land acquisition process adheres to internal SOPs and relevant policies.
- Documentation & Title Diligence
- Prepare requisition lists and coordinate with developers/aggregators for land documentation including revenue records, encumbrance certificates, and mutation entries.
- Lead title diligence exercises through third-party advisors and local legal counsel.
- Review land title search reports and coordinate with external consultants to identify:
- Issues that must be resolved prior to land acquisition, or
- Grounds for rejecting specific land parcels.
- Legal Review & Advisory
- Draft and review title documents, land-use agreements, and other related legal documentation.
- Provide legal advice on land title issues, right-of-way matters, and associated risks.
- Assist in managing land-related litigation and disputes.
- Interpret state-specific land laws to provide ongoing legal guidance and risk assessment for largescale renewable energy projects.
- Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Draft and vet correspondence with land developers, aggregators, and legal contractors.
- Manage, review, and update land registration documents and lease agreements for current and upcoming assets.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth land acquisition and compliance with legal requirements.
Qualifications
- LLB from a reputed and accredited university in India.
- 5+ years of experience in land advisory, land acquisition, title diligence, litigation, and land-related legal matters—preferably within the renewable energy or infrastructure sector.
