What you become a part of:
This is a build role responsible for establishing and leading Shalina Healthcare’s group-wide Master Data Management (MDM) function. The role will define the operating model, governance framework, standards, processes, technology and quality measures for master data across our manufacturing operations in India and distribution markets across Africa.
The successful candidate will build a federated MDM capability from a relatively low baseline — establishing clear data ownership, governance standards, request-to-publish workflows, service levels and data quality measures, while building the central MDM team.
Master data is a critical foundation for the Group’s analytics, digital and AI agenda, and this role will play a key part in establishing that foundation.
What to expect:
Operating Model and Data Governance:
- Establish and manage the Group MDM operating model, including decision rights across the central function, business data owners and country data stewards.
- Define and maintain master data policies, standards, taxonomies, hierarchies and governance frameworks across all domains.
- Establish and run regular Data Governance Forums and support the Data Governance Council with quality scorecards and change priorities.
- Partner with senior business stakeholders to establish clear ownership and accountability for master data.
Data Standards and Stewardship:
- Define and maintain data standards, attribute definitions, code sets and business rules.
- Establish clear guidelines for global versus local data requirements and manage exceptions effectively.
- Resolve cross-functional and cross-market data conflicts, escalating significant business trade-offs to the Council, where required.
- Drive consistent adoption of master data standards across countries and business functions.
Operations and Service Delivery:
- Own the end-to-end master data lifecycle, including creation, modification, blocking and deletion.
- Establish service levels for master data requests and monitor adherence through regular reporting.
- Drive automation of routine master data processes to improve efficiency and enable stewards to focus on governance and exceptions.
- Build and manage the MDM operations team and develop the shared-service capability.
Data Quality and Reporting:
- Establish data quality baselines and measurement frameworks across key master data domains.
- Define and monitor metrics covering completeness, accuracy, uniqueness, timeliness and conformance.
- Publish regular data quality dashboards and scorecards for business stakeholders.
- Identify recurring data quality issues and drive root-cause resolution through upstream process improvements.
Technology and Change Delivery:
- Define business and functional requirements for the selection, implementation and ongoing development of the Group’s MDM platform.
- Lead the integration of master data with ERP, SFA, planning and other enterprise systems.
- Develop and execute a phased MDM roadmap aligned to business priorities, timelines and budgets.
- Manage MDM technology initiatives and program budgets.
Essential qualifications & experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management or a related discipline; Master's degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in data management, data governance or MDM, with at least 4 years leading a master data or data governance function.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, FMCG, consumer healthcare or regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in building or significantly transforming an MDM/data governance capability, rather than only operating an established function.
- Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise MDM platform and integration with major ERP platforms such as SAP S/4HANA or Microsoft Dynamics/Business Central.
- Strong understanding of at least two core master data domains, such as Product/Material, Customer, Vendor or Finance.
Desired skills & attributes:
- Strong understanding of business processes and master data dependencies within ERP environments.
- Experience with African markets or comparable emerging-market distribution environments is an advantage.
- Exposure to analytics, digital transformation or AI initiatives and their master data dependencies.
- Proven ability to establish data ownership and influence senior business stakeholders without direct authority.
- Experience building, leading and developing a new team.
- Strong stakeholder management and change management capabilities across functions and geographies.
- Ability to balance global standards with legitimate local business requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data quality issues into business impact across service, margin, cash and compliance.
- Ability to drive adoption and accountability while managing exceptions in a practical and commercially sensible manner.
- Comfortable working across Indian manufacturing operations and multiple African markets.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a fast-growing, mission-led organization transforming healthcare access in Africa.
- Lead the development of a group-wide MDM capability from the ground up.
- Work with diverse teams across India, Dubai and multiple African markets.
- Play a key role in enabling the Group’s broader analytics, digital and AI transformation agenda.
- Opportunity to operate in a dynamic, international environment with room for growth and innovation.
