We are currently hiring a Finance Manager – Nonprofit Accounting to support a leading U.S.-based nonprofit organization. This role offers strong exposure to U.S. GAAP, nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, grant accounting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit support.
As a Finance Manager, you will manage day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities, lead the close process, oversee key reconciliations, support budgeting and forecasting, and manage a team of accounting professionals.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting & Financial Reporting
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Review financial statements, accruals, reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
• Research accounting and reporting issues and provide practical recommendations to senior finance leadership.
• Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts and support effective use of accounting and financial systems.
Nonprofit & Grant Accounting (Mandatory)
• Manage grant accounting and funder reporting, including reconciliations, compliance, reimbursements, and reporting requirements.
• Ensure appropriate revenue recognition for grants, contracts, contributions, and program revenue, including deferred revenue.
• Review restricted funds and other significant accounts and ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Controls
• Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including variance and financial analysis.
• Analyze actual results against budget and forecast and identify key trends, risks, and corrective actions.
• Support cash-flow forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Coordinate/support external audit activities, including audit schedules and requested documentation.
Team Management & Process Improvement
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
• Allocate workloads, monitor team performance, and provide coaching and feedback.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, standardization, and stronger financial controls.
• Collaborate with finance and business stakeholders to resolve issues and improve financial operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• 4+ years of experience in a supervisory or team-management role.
• Strong hands-on experience with U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Experience in nonprofit accounting is strongly preferred.
• Experience with grant accounting, revenue recognition, restricted funds, and funder reporting is preferred.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or other accounting/ERP systems is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
• CPA / Master's degree is preferred.
