EHS Manager
Position Overview
The EHS Manager will lead and manage all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across our commercial building portfolio, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations while fostering a culture of safety excellence.
Essential Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field required
Experience: 10-12 years of progressive EHS experience in commercial building operations, property management, or facilities management environments
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation
The EHS Manager develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This role establishes protocols for incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. The position requires creating and updating emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and business continuity protocols specific to commercial building operations.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, local building codes, and other applicable EHS regulations. The manager conducts regular audits and inspections of commercial properties to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented. This position maintains all required permits, licenses, and regulatory documentation while staying current on evolving EHS legislation and requirements.
Training and Communication
The EHS Manager designs and delivers comprehensive safety training programs for building operations staff, contractors, and tenants. This includes conducting safety orientations, toolbox talks, and specialized training on topics such as hazardous materials handling, fire safety, and emergency procedures. The role requires developing clear communication strategies to promote safety awareness throughout the organization.
Incident Management and Reporting
This position manages the investigation of all workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses, identifying trends and implementing preventive measures. The manager prepares and submits required regulatory reports and maintains accurate recordkeeping systems. Responsibilities include coordinating with workers' compensation administrators and insurance carriers regarding workplace injuries.
Contractor and Vendor Management
The EHS Manager establishes and enforces safety requirements for contractors and vendors working within commercial properties. This includes reviewing contractor safety programs, conducting pre-qualification assessments, and monitoring contractor compliance with safety standards during building operations, maintenance, and construction activities.
Required Knowledge And Skills
Technical Expertise:
- Comprehensive knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices
- Strong understanding of building systems, operations, and maintenance activities
- Proficiency in hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies
- Familiarity with indoor air quality, hazardous materials management, and environmental compliance
Leadership and Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence at all organizational levels
- Proven people management capabilities with experience leading cross-functional teams
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations and training sessions

Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent)
- Experience with EHS management systems and software platforms
