Engineering Manager – C++ Applications
Business Environment
Shaping the future of travel is at the heart of Amadeus. Our Open Back-End (OBE) C++ applications power mission-critical airline and travel services, supporting high‑volume, low‑latency transactions and stringent SLAs.
About The Role
As an Engineering Manager in the Revenue Accounting (ARA) organization, you will lead engineering teams building and operating mission‑critical financial systems that support real‑time passenger revenue accounting, interline billing, and airline financial reporting.
You will balance people leadership, deep technical ownership, and delivery accountability to ensure accuracy, scalability, compliance, and production stability across Amadeus Revenue Accounting modules.
Key Responsibilities
People & Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop cross‑functional agile teams (C++ Engineers, QA Engineers, Business Analysts)
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and continuous career discussions
- Career development, and succession planning
- Actively contribute to hiring, onboarding, and team scaling
- Foster a culture of ownership, quality, and operational excellence
Delivery & Execution
- Own delivery commitments aligned with Revenue Accounting product roadmaps and PI objectives
- Lead sprint planning, prioritization, and execution in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Ensure predictable delivery while managing dependencies, risks, and regulatory constraints
- Ensure high engineering standards: clean architecture, code quality, test coverage, documentation, and adherence to OBE performance and reliability constraints.
- Provide clear visibility on delivery status, risks, and production readiness
Technical & Architectural Leadership
- Own technical delivery of C++ applications running on Linux platforms
- Review and validate key technical designs, ensuring they align with architecture guidelines and platform strategies.
- Promote secure coding, observability, and operability-by-design for all services.
- Partner with Architects and Principal Engineers to evolve the technical roadmap of your domain.
- Support investigation and resolution of production‑critical incidents
Stakeholder & Domain Collaboration
- Act as the primary point of contact for your product/area towards:
- Product owners / business stakeholders.
- Other R&D teams and trains (for shared components and dependencies).
- Operations, Support, and Implementation teams.
- Provide clear, data‑driven status updates and risk assessments to senior management.
- Contribute to roadmap planning and cross‑team alignment within ARA
- Represent the team in architecture forums, release planning, and cross‑train syncs.
Required
Technical Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong hands‑on experience in C++ with solid OOP foundations
- Experience developing and maintaining software on Linux/Unix platforms
- Strong knowledge of:
- Data structures and algorithms
- Multithreading and performance tuning
- Experience with relational databases (Oracle / MySQL)
- Experience troubleshooting complex systems
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP)
- Exposure to cloud‑native or containerized architectures (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
- Exposure to REST APIs and distributed systems
- Prior experience in financial systems, revenue accounting, or airline domain
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent (B.E / B.Tech / MCA)
- Typically 10–14+ years of relevant industry experience
- Prior experience as a Engineering Manager preferred
- Experience working on business‑critical, high‑availability systems is a strong advantage
