Role Overview :
As we scale revenue, channels, and geographies, the need for a rigorous, investor-ready finance control environment has never been more critical. The Manager – Controllership will own the company’s accounting backbone: from monthly close discipline and compliance to balance sheet health and audit readiness. This role sits at the intersection of financial accuracy, operational control, and stakeholder reporting – and is central to our fundraising and governance narrative.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Month-End & Year-End Book Closure
- Own and drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual book close process within defined timelines
- Ensure completeness of accruals, prepayments, provisions, and reconciliations across all ledgers.
- Manage close calendar, coordinate with planning and business finance teams for inputs, and publish a post-close sign-off.
- Maintain clean general ledger hygiene, including clearing of open items.
2. MIS & Investor Reporting
- Publish monthly MIS packs to founders and investor board within agreed timelines, with full P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and key business metrics.
- Ensure MIS is audit-trail backed and reconciles to books; maintain version-controlled investor-grade reporting formats.
- Coordinate with BI and business finance teams to ensure accuracy of channel-level, SKU-level, and unit economic data feeding into MIS.
- Support investor data room preparation, due diligence requests, and ad hoc investor queries.
3. Payment Operations & Controls
- Establish and enforce a payment control framework covering vendor payables, platform settlements, payroll, and statutory payments.
- Ensure maker-checker protocols are in place across all payment flows; implement payment risk controls to prevent fraud and errors.
- Manage vendor aging and payment schedules in coordination with SCM and procurement teams.
- Drive reconciliation of payment settlements against shipped and returned orders.
4. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all statutory obligations:
- Own compliance calendars
- Oversee GST reconciliation between books, GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B; resolve mismatches and ITC claims.
- Stay current on tax regulatory changes impacting D2C / e-commerce businesses and proactively communicate implications.
5. Balance Sheet Health & Working Capital Management
- Own balance sheet integrity: ensure all balance sheet items are supported by schedules, reconciliations, and adequate provisioning.
- Monitor working capital KPIs: payable days, receivables aging, inventory write-off provisions, and advance aging.
- Identify and flag balance sheet risks proactively; maintain a balance sheet review rhythm with leadership.
- Ensure proper capitalization of fixed assets, accurate depreciation schedules, and timely disposal/write-off accounting.
7. Statutory Audit & Internal Audit Closure
- Lead statutory audit closure; own all audit schedules, confirmations, and management representation letters.
- Resolve audit queries and qualifications proactively; drive audit completion within agreed timelines.
- Support internal audit and IFC (Internal Financial Controls) documentation and testing as required by investors or board.
8. Finance Systems & Process Excellence
- Own accounting systems and ERP hygiene; drive automation of manual reconciliation and reporting workflows.
- Define SOPs for all controllership processes and ensure the team operates consistently against them.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce close timelines, improve data quality, and increase finance team leverage.
Who You Are:
- CA (Chartered Accountant) – mandatory. CA with articleship in a reputed firm strongly preferred.
- 4–5 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 3 years in a controllership / accounting / reporting role.
- Prior experience in an e-commerce, D2C, marketplace, or high-growth consumer startup is preferable.
- Hands-on experience with statutory audit closure , MIS publishing, and compliance management.
- Strong working knowledge of IndAS / Schedule III financials, GST, TDS, and corporate tax compliance.
- Proficiency in Tally, Zoho Books, or any ERP; comfort with Excel-based MIS and reconciliation workflows.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience supporting investor MIS and due diligence processes in a funded startup.
- Prior experience managing a small team of 2–5 accounting / compliance professionals.
- Familiarity with marketplace settlement reconciliations (Flipkart, Amazon, Myntra, Meesho, etc.).
