About the Role:

The Banquet Captain plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless execution of banquet events within hospitality venues across the United States. This position is responsible for overseeing banquet operations from setup through service to breakdown, guaranteeing that all events meet the highest standards of quality and guest satisfaction. The Banquet Captain leads and coordinates a team of banquet servers and support staff, managing workflow and addressing any issues promptly to maintain smooth service. They act as the primary point of contact between the event organizers, kitchen staff, and service team, ensuring clear communication and adherence to event specifications. Ultimately, the Banquet Captain contributes significantly to creating memorable experiences for guests by delivering exceptional service and operational excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in banquet or event service, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of banquet service procedures and hospitality standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in hospitality management or related field.
  • Experience with event management software or banquet event order (BEO) systems.
  • First aid and food safety certification.
  • Bilingual abilities to communicate with diverse guest populations.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale events successfully.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate banquet service staff during events to ensure efficient and courteous service.
  • Manage the setup and breakdown of banquet rooms according to event specifications and timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with event planners, kitchen staff, and management to ensure all event details are executed accurately.
  • Monitor service quality and guest satisfaction throughout the event, addressing any issues or special requests promptly.
  • Train and mentor banquet staff on service standards, safety protocols, and teamwork to maintain high performance.

Skills:

The Banquet Captain utilizes leadership and communication skills daily to coordinate teams and liaise between departments, ensuring all event details are understood and executed flawlessly. Organizational skills are critical for managing multiple tasks such as scheduling staff, overseeing room setups, and monitoring service flow during events. Problem-solving abilities are essential to quickly address any unexpected challenges or guest concerns, maintaining a positive event atmosphere. Knowledge of hospitality standards and service techniques ensures that the team delivers consistent, high-quality guest experiences. Additionally, proficiency with event management tools enhances efficiency in planning and tracking event requirements.
