-Job Title: Paraeducator-Project Life/Search Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Principal Date Revised: March 2021
Primary Purpose:
Assist in the supervision, instruction, and care of students with special needs while supporting them at
various vocational and job sites in order for students to complete job functions and complete
independent living goals.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: High School diploma (or equivalent) required.
Driver’s License and Evidence of Insurability required.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; ability to present information
one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
● Adapts vocational skills for the purpose of providing an opportunity for all special education
students performing at different learning levels and/or with different functional limitations to
participate in programs and prepare for levels of independent living
● Adapts life skills for the purpose of providing an opportunity for all special education students
performing at different learning levels and/or with different functional limitations to participate
in programs and prepare for levels of independent living.
● Administers first aid, daily living care, mental health support, medical and non-medical
assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate care and/or developing student's daily living
activities and behavioral skills.
● Assists students in practicing job skills for the purpose of reinforcing job skills.
● Maintains a variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. daily log, reports, etc.) for the purpose
of providing written reference and recording progress towards IEP goals and objectives.
● Collaborates with staff for the purpose of providing necessary support and information in
evaluating student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
● Supports the integration of natural supports at the job site for the purpose of helping students
be as independent as possible
● Monitors special education student(s) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning
environment.
● Participates in meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. first aid, emergency procedures, etc.)
for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions to meet
established annual state requirements.
● Supports off-site learning and/or leisure trips for the purpose of preparing students for
independent living.
● Provides feedback and daily records on students for the purpose of communicating student's
daily progress to the transition team.
● Supports special education students at their job sites for the purpose of helping students learn
their job functions.
● Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive
learning environment, and adhering to State Law and school policies as a mandated reporter.
● Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work
unit.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and phone,
standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals as well as embosser.
Posture: Some pushing and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing. Frequent standing, walking
and/or pushing/pulling.
Motion: Significant climbing and balancing as well as fine finger dexterity. Significant stooping,
kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress,
solve problems, make decisions and be flexible
Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of
Education policies and regulations.
