Maize South High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Assistant Principal strong in instructional strategy. The Assistant Principal position is a 10-month contract. Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Master’s degree from an accredited university and active building leadership license
Special Knowledge/Skills: School and building operations, curriculum and instruction, budgeting, personnel management, implementation of policies and procedures, data interpretation, communication
Experience: At least 5 years of teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Understand and demonstrate competence in content, student growth and development, learning styles, classroom instruction and management, communication, lesson planning assessment, reflection, and community.
- Promote the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, and implementation of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
- Advocate, nurture, and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
- Model collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
- Hire and evaluate building level personnel.
- Conduct staff evaluations.
- Serve on building and district committees.
- Follow all KSDE, Legislation and BOE policy and regulation.
- Monitor instructional processes to ensure that educational activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary.
- Provide instructional resources and materials needed to accomplish instructional goals.
- Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management and communication.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
- Provide opportunities for interactive communication with district leaders, staff, students, parents, and community.
- Work with staff to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the student handbook.
- Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents.
- Manage use of school facilities. Oversee maintenance of facilities to ensure clean, orderly, and safe facilities.
- Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to the building.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences in accordance with district policy and state law. Serve as second appraiser as needed for the designated teacher evaluation system.
- Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals.
- Work with district-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
- Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school and district.
