Job Title: Maintenance Engineer (Lab Experience)
Position Summary
The Laboratory Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous, accurate, and safe operation of laboratory equipment, facility infrastructure, and environmental control systems.
The role supports compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards by maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting equipment to ensure reliable testing and calibration results.
Key Responsibilities
1. Facilities & Environmental Monitoring
Monitor and maintain laboratory environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, vibration, electrical supply, and air quality.
Ensure laboratory infrastructure including HVAC systems, fume hoods, and water purification systems function effectively.
Implement procedures to prevent contamination or interference between laboratory activities.
Maintain records of environmental monitoring to ensure testing conditions remain compliant.
2. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
Develop and manage the Master Calibration & Preventive Maintenance Plan for all laboratory instruments.
Coordinate Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) for new or repaired equipment.
Maintain detailed equipment logs including identification, software versions, calibration, and service history.
Identify and isolate defective equipment and ensure it is properly tagged and removed from service until verified.
3. Metrological Traceability
Ensure all measurement equipment is calibrated through accredited calibration service providers.
Maintain traceability to SI units through valid calibration chains.
Review and verify calibration certificates before equipment is released for use.
4. External Vendor Management
Evaluate and select external vendors for calibration, maintenance, and repairs.
Monitor vendor performance to ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards.
5. Quality Assurance & Technical Support
Conduct intermediate equipment checks between calibration cycles.
Assist in investigating non-conforming results caused by equipment failure.
Verify proper equipment performance after maintenance or repair before returning it to service.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering
Experience
3–5 years experience in laboratory equipment maintenance
Experience in ISO 17025 accredited laboratory preferred
Technical Knowledge
Laboratory environmental control systems
Metrology and calibration principles
Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance management systems
Certifications (Preferred)
Certified Maintenance Planner
Calibration Technician Certification
Working Conditions
Work in a regulated laboratory environment requiring strict compliance with safety and cleanliness standards.
May require on-call support for emergency equipment breakdowns to minimize laboratory downtime.
