Key Responsibilities and Requirements
Communication and Collaboration
The candidate should be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with:
- z System Technical team members
- z System Storage team members (separate from Distributed Storage teams)
- z System Application team members
- Finance team members
- Procurement team members
- IT Leadership
z Platform Expertise
A strong and in-depth understanding of the z Platform is required, including:
Physical Environment
- Knowledge of appropriate hardware processor types
- Understanding processing requirements for each hardware type
- DASD and processing patterns
Logical Environment
- Understanding of z System programming components, including how APIs operate on the z Platform and their impact on CPUs and LPAR definitions
- Knowledge of z Platform processing components such as CICS, Db2, Network, and OS, and how they interact from a financial chargeback perspective
Mainframe Applications
- Understanding how mainframe applications interact with each other and with system components
- Knowledge of z System Account Codes and the account code request process
System and Application Data
- Ability to provide data for financial chargeback reporting
- Support data requirements for CBAs and POCs
- Knowledge of SMF data, z System storage processing, and zLinux concepts
Processes
- SCRT processing and strong understanding of reported data, including identifying anomalies before submission
- Experience with IBM, Broadcom, CA, and BMC billing reports and processes
- Knowledge of configuration management CIs and their relationship with the z Platform
- Experience with TADz and the ability to answer data-related questions using detailed analysis
- Understanding of platform-specific security requirements and RACF capabilities
- Ability to use AI tools for data analysis, recommendations, and solution implementation
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 Copilot for meeting summaries and email drafting
- Commitment to staying updated on AI advancements relevant to system programming
Distributed Computing Skills
- Ability to maintain ASP.NET applications
- Support PLM processes on x86 servers and perform verification tasks

The candidate should demonstrate the ability to quickly develop expertise in:
- Optum’s z Platform hardware processor configuration
- DASD and processing patterns
- Processing components and their financial chargeback impact
- Mainframe applications and system interactions
- z System Account Codes and associated processes
- SCRT processing and validation
- IBM, Broadcom, CA, and BMC billing processes within the Optum environment
- z Platform chargeback processes, including automation adjustments based on SMF data
- Translating technical requirements into financial outcomes
- Understanding the rate card impact on future z Platform processing
- Data validation before submission to Finance
- z Platform software inventory reporting
- TRM/ITCB submission and sign-off processes
- Developing reports based on z Platform data patterns
- Application decommissioning reporting
- Development of z System APIs with strong understanding of mainframe Db2 table structures and interactions with CICS and ODM
- Complete knowledge of the Endevor process and support capabilities
- Full support of the z Platform dashboard and centralization of technical data initiatives
