About the Department
With a focus on promoting a positive employee-centered Human Resources division and organizational culture, the HR (Human Resources) Specialist will independently coordinate, plan and prioritize talent management tasks. The specialist directly engages with staff and college departments, responding and making operating decisions based on knowledge of college policies and procedures. The specialist is responsible to facilitate the recruitment, hiring and onboarding of new employees while supporting employees throughout their career at Macomb Community College.
Position Duties
- Implement end-to-end hiring processes to ensure a positive experience for candidates and hiring departments
- Coordinate and process the online tracking system applications, including submitting change/update requests to the system, adding and removing users and departments, change and updating passwords
- Collect, organize and maintain personal files and records of all materials used for recruitment and employment, including but not limited to candidate applications, credentials, committee interview notes and related documentation
- Coordinate employment activities for assigned bargaining units; resolves problems or completes activities based on knowledge of bargaining unit contracts, College organization, policies and personnel
- Will be expected to process employee information and payroll with a high-level accuracy and attention to detail.
- Provide support in the revision, development and implementation of HR procedures
- Participates in collective bargaining with various bargaining units as requested.
- Serves as an advisor for the negotiation team as requested.
- Become versed in assigned bargaining unit contracts and provide HR policy, procedure and collective bargaining agreement guidance to staff as appropriate.
- Regularly involved in implementation of assigned bargaining unit contracts; participates in strategy sessions involving implementation of changes to bargaining unit contracts
- Participates in strategy sessions involving implementation of new software systems, processes and procedures
- Assist with the revision and updating of job descriptions
- Assist with job analysis for positions to make salary recommendations
- Assist with the compensation review and analysis of positions as assigned.
- Assist with assessment testing for employee evaluation and training purposes.
- Serve as a trainer for the HR talent management software and user modules which include but are not limited to applicant tracking modules, training and learning systems and performance management systems
- Assist with and or deliver Human resources employee training and or workshops as assigned
- Participates in strategy sessions related to orientation and training processes created and implemented by HR. Participates in the actual training/orientations as assigned.
- Will be expected to learn software, operations and activities of the Office of Human Resources Office and of the College, as needed
- Deal appropriately with confidential materials and issues related to Board of Trustees, personnel and labor negotiations.
- Will be expected to use Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook. Additionally, will be expected to know or learn and use other software packages utilized within the department such Ellucian and Business Objects
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree or higher required. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Leadership, or related field is preferred.
Other Qualifications
One year of experience in a Human Resources environment is required. One year of experience in a higher education/union environment is preferred.
