1. Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer – Machinery Maintenance & Procurement will be responsible for managing end-to-end technical operations of the company’s manufacturing machinery, including maintenance, troubleshooting, new equipment procurement, FAT trials, technical documentation, BOK/URS preparation, and coordination with domestic & international machine suppliers.
This role is critical for ensuring continuous production efficiency, high machine uptime, and robust decision-making for capital machinery investments. The engineer must have strong hands-on experience in the food industry or manufacturing sector, specifically in handling advanced processing, filling, packaging, and utility machinery.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Machine Maintenance & Technical Operations
- Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of all automated and semi-automated machines.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and utility-related issues to reduce downtime.
- Maintain machine health monitoring logs, AMC records, maintenance checklists, and service reports.
- Ensure production equipment operates at optimal efficiency with minimal interruptions.
- Improve machine performance through process optimisation, mechanical modifications, and efficiency upgrades.
B. New Machinery Procurement (Domestic & Imported)
- Identify suitable machinery as per production requirements and future expansion plans.
- Evaluate technical specifications, machine capabilities, manufacturing reliability, pricing & after-sales support.
- Coordinate with domestic and international machinery suppliers from India, Taiwan, Thailand, Europe, China, etc.
- Compare quotations, negotiate terms, and support management in final purchase decisions.
- Ensure all GST, import, warranty, spare parts, and procurement documentation are in order.
C. FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT & Commissioning
- Lead and conduct FAT trials at supplier’s factory before shipment.
- Verify machine performance, speed, utilities, electrical & mechanical operations as per URS/BOK.
- Identify gaps, deviations, and ensure supplier rectification prior to dispatch.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning & start-up activities at the company’s factory.
- Document acceptance reports and ensure successful handover to production teams.
D. URS, BOK & Technical Documentation
- Prepare complete URS (User Requirement Specification) for every new machinery purchase.
- Prepare BOK (Bill of Quantity / Bill of Material / Scope) based on company technical requirements.
- Ensure URS/BOK are technically robust, covering:
- Design parameters
- Materials of construction
- Production capacity
- Safety features
- Utility requirements
- Spare parts list
- Electrical & automation controls
- Ensure supplier quotations match URS/BOK without deviations.
E. Vendor Evaluation & Technical Coordination
- Assess new vendors based on capability, experience, quality, and technical support.
- Communicate with domestic and imported machine suppliers for technical clarifications.
- Coordinate with purchase, production, QA, and finance departments for seamless project execution.
- Track delivery timelines, installation schedules, and machine training support from vendors.
F. Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization
- Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance cost, improve machine efficiency, and optimize utilities.
- Suggest process upgrades or machinery enhancements for long-term sustainability.
- Evaluate ROI for new machines and present recommendations to management.
3. Required Qualifications
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Experience
- Fresher OR 2 to 4years’ experience in:
- Food Processing Industry
- FMCG Manufacturing
- Machinery Manufacturing / Industrial Machines
- Hands-on experience with filling lines, packaging machines, pasteurizers, mixers, conveyors, utilities, etc.
- Experience in imported machinery procurement is highly preferred.
- 4. Required Skills & Competencies Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and utilities.
- Ability to read machine drawings, P&ID, electrical layouts, and technical manuals.
- Strong understanding of FAT, SAT, URS, BOK, AMC & spare parts management.
- Experience working with high-speed filling, seaming, packaging, and processing machinery.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication for working with international vendors.
- Problem-solving mindset with a hands-on practical approach.
- Ability to work independently at a factory site with minimal supervision.
- Strong documentation and report-writing abilities.
