About the role

Visionary is building an intelligence-first learning platform. As a Machine Learning Engineer on the founding team, you will design, build, and run the production ML systems that power personalized learning, native-language explanations, and adaptive tutoring at scale.

This is not a research role and not an experimentation-only position. You will own models that ship, run in production, and directly impact how learners understand concepts and reduce learning time.

This role is central to how Visionary solves the learning duration problem.

What you’ll do

• Design, train, and deploy production-grade ML models for personalized learning and adaptive content delivery.
• Build and evolve NLP systems for explanation, question answering, and concept understanding.
• Develop and fine-tune models for Indian native languages (text and/or speech).
• Work hands-on with LLMs to power AI tutor workflows, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
• Define and track model success metrics tied to learning outcomes, not just offline accuracy.
• Optimize models for latency, cost, reliability, and scale in real user environments.
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering to translate learning problems into deployable AI systems.
• Own the full ML lifecycle: data → modeling → evaluation → deployment → monitoring.

Minimum qualifications (required)

• 5+ years of production experience building applied machine learning systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python for ML and production pipelines.
• Practical experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow in real projects.
• Deep understanding of NLP fundamentals (tokenization, embeddings, transformers).
• Proven experience deploying ML models into production (not notebooks only).
• Ability to work end-to-end across data, modeling, evaluation, and serving.
• Experience integrating or serving ML/AI models in live systems.
• Experience optimizing ML systems for low bandwidth, latency, and reliability.
• Strong engineering mindset with attention to system quality and maintainability.
• Candidates without real-world ML production experience will not be a fit for this role.

Preferred qualifications

• 4+ Years Experience working with LLMs (fine-tuning, prompting strategies, evaluation).
• Hands-on experience with RAG pipelines, vector databases, or semantic search.
• Experience with ASR / TTS systems or speech-based models.
• Exposure to Indian languages (Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, or others).
• Experience with visualization or interactive systems (WebGL / three.js is a plus).
