About the Department
This is a professional position managing and enforcing support orders between separated couples for child support, spousal support, alimony pendente lite, alimony and medical support, specifically involving Interstate cases.
After a training period, an employee in this position manages an active caseload. Once support orders are established, the employee monitors payments and enforces compliance, by use of various legal procedures. In cases where payments cannot be collected by other means, the employee prepares recommendations to the court for disposition of the case, and testifies at court hearings.
Position Duties
Conduct enforcement conferences in attempt to ensure compliance with order.
Contacts employers, Bureau of Employment Security, Department of Public Welfare, Housing Authorities, Parole Offices, and other agencies to gather facts on dependency status and ability to make support payments.
Reviews compliance reports, both on-line and written, of support payments and investigates cases of nonpayment.
Conducts client and other jurisdiction communication via telephone/verbal/in person communication. All communication is entered in computer.
Enforce compliance by locating absent parties, issuing wage attachments, intercepting both federal and state tax refunds, attaching workman’s compensation, unemployment compensation, seizing bank account and other measures.
Prepare modifications to court orders when financial condition or dependency status of parties change.
Performs related work as required by the Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess knowledge of current economic and social factors and their effect on individuals.
- Must possess knowledge on the practices of conducting interviews.
- Must have the ability to learn and apply laws and regulations relating to domestic relations cases.
- Must have the ability to analyze complex social situations and recognize workable solutions.
- Must have the ability to handle hostile relationships between parties.
- Must have the ability to build confidence and deal authoritatively with people under stress.
- Must have the ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to establish cooperative working relationships with county officials and other government agencies.
Other Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
