About the Department

This Deputy Sheriff Corporal is a first line supervisory position, working such hours as directed by the Sheriff or other higher ranking department staff. The Deputy Sheriff Corporal is responsible for ensuring adherence to the policies and procedures of the department and the county personnel policies. Limited supervision is normally received and work is normally viewed for adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

Position Duties

The safe transportation and security of prisoners to and from court and various commonwealth, state, federal, and county correctional facilities.
Security of courthouse and other county properties.
Security of all persons within county owned buildings.
Service of criminal warrants, protection from abuse orders, and civil writs.
Assistance to other county agencies when law enforcement duties are required.
Clerical duties as they relate to specific functions and duties of the Sheriff's office.
Enforcing criminal and vehicle statutes.
Serve as training officer for new employees.
Directs the work of subordinate employees and ensures adherence with the policies and procedures of the county and of the department.
Measures the performance of subordinates and provides higher ranking members of the department with information in regard to said performance.
Performs any other duty required by the Sheriff higher ranking member of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Ability to prepare and submit reports and correspondence.
Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions.
Ability to relay information accurately from one source to another.
Ability to exercise sound judgments during the performances of their duties.
Ability to maintain firearms qualification as required by the Sheriff.
Ability to perform within prescribed office procedures and practices and knowledge of operation of relevant equipment.
Knowledge of Pennsylvania Criminal and Procedural Law.
Thorough knowledge of the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department and of the county, to ensure proper performance of duty of subordinates.

Other Qualifications

High School Graduate or equivalent.
Pa Act 2 certification or waiver as mandated by Commonwealth Law.
Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in Law Enforcement
